1Malaysia as espoused by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will not be on show at the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) Open Day tomorrow.

However an exhibition booth managed by the information department will explain the basic concepts, said a government officer involved in the open day programme.

The reason could be attributed to a report that there was dispute at a special retreat of ministers last Sunday on the details of the 1Malaysia initiative.

NONE It is understood that the strongest objection came from Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Information Minister Rais Yatim.

Hence, the cabinet's decision to do away with elaborate promotions and downsize it to a booth explaining the objectives of 1Malaysia.

The open day will be held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre to showcase the government's programmes and aims under the six National Key Results Areas (NKRAs).

Among the areas are education, low-income households, basic rural infrastructure, urban public transport, corruption and crime.

Open to the public

Tomorrow's session is limited to VIPs and civil servants while Friday's session is open to the public from 9am to 5pm.

Exhibition booths and dialogue sessions will be conducted by government officers to explain the various NKRAs.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang meanwhile slammed the postponement of the 1Malaysia initiative.

"The postponement of the 1Malaysia initiative in the public presentation of Najib's 1Malaysia will be conspicuous by its absence," said Lim.

"It questions if Najib's 1Malaysia concept really means anything serious or different to the people, apart from the publicity and propaganda."

Lim also said the cabinet's indecision on BTN courses shows a lack of political will to ensure 1Malaysia breaks with past racist policies and programmes to embrace an all-inclusive nation-building policy and programme.
