A group of Bukit Koman new village residents are crying foul over their brief detention by the police while they were en route to Hulu Selangor to participate in the campaign.

The group of 16 in three vehicles were held for five minutes along the Tras-Kuala Kubu Baru route at the police road block while their particulars were recorded.

NONE According to one member from the group, Christine Cheong, it was suspected that the police pulled them over because they were wearing the Bukit Koman Anti-Cyanide Committee T-shirt.

The committee is an ad hoc group of residents who have been fiercely protesting against the use of cyanide for gold-mining activities in a lake next to their village in Raub, Pahang since 2007.

“The police stopped us for no good reason and took down all of our IC numbers. I suspect that the police knew about our delegation and were watching out for us,” she said.

DPM denies claim

Cheong adds that one police personnel told them that the roadblock was the result of 'orders from the top' and that the roadblock did not exist previously.

NONE Previously, the group had vowed to bring their campaign to Hulu Selangor and confront Raub MP Ng Yen Yen, who has been tasked by MCA to campaign in the Kuala Kubu Baru area.

The committee members plan to make their presence felt during the nomination rally tomorrow and speak at Pakatan Rakyat ceramah in the following days to come.

Earlier today in Bukit Beruntung, BN deputy chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin dismissed the Bukit Koman resident's campaign as a "lie" and that DAP was instigating them.

“This issue has outside influence, the government has already looked into the matter and the reports show that the mining works have no effects on the environment or the residents' health,” he said.
