Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has brought ‘shame' to Malaysia and Malaysians for his support of the US-Israeli plot against Iran and has been urged to oppose their plans to isolate and attack Iran to bring about regime change.

Targeting Najib statements calling on Teheran to comply with the UN Security Council's decision to order the Islamic republic to suspend its uranium enrichment activities, the NGOs said today "there is no reason why Iran must comply with a demand that is clearly illegal."

Nusantara Initiative for Justice and Peace (NADI), a network of Muslim groups in Southeast Asia, and a Perak-based NGO called Jama'iy Perak, said in a joint-statement that Najib's support of Obama's policy of pressuring Iran was "another show of compliance with the US."

NONE Citing the sacking of Malaysia's representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in February for not voting against Iran's uranium enrichment programme, Nadi coordinator Azmi Abdul Hamid and Jama'iy deputy chief Zulkifli Ibrahim said Najib (left) was now more "happy and proud" to shake hands with US president Barack Obama than raising questions about the plans to isolate Iran.

The US and some European states, said the groups, have falsely accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons despite refutations by the IAEA and US intelligence agencies of such a "baseless claim."

They also cited Israel's ‘surreptitious' development and possession of more than 200 nuclear weapons with sophisticated air, sea and land delivery systems.

Unlike Iran, they said further, Israel is not a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and therefore not subject to inspection by the IAEA.

In addition to aggression against neighbouring states, the Zionist state had also repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons against its enemies.

‘Rogue nation'

The ‘international community', meanwhile, has only closed its eyes to the activities of this "rogue nation" while threatening to impose crippling sanctions on Iran for exercising its lawful right to enrich uranium for power generation and medical use, they said.

Amidst all this, said the groups, Najib was reported yesterday to have said Malaysia would cut off gasoline supplies to Iran in order to improve American perception of Malaysia.

Najib has since denied the reports, saying it was Malaysian oil firm Petronas which was involved in a spot sale to Iran under a third party deal but since which there has been no deal.

Nevertheless, said Jama'iy and Nadi, it is considered "a great shame to our nation and our people" for Najib to issue such statements.

Malaysians have "the highest regard for Iran because of its courage to stand up, and not to capitulate, to the bullying and illegal demands of the US and Israel," they added.

NONE "Najib's action goes against the independent and non-aligned foreign policy, and closer relations with the Muslim and Third-World countries, initiated by his late father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein (right) in the 1970s," said the groups.

"We believe that this radical change in our foreign policy is the result of the policy advise given by APCO (Worldwide) the Zionist consultancy firm," they added.

Malaysia should emulate the example of China, which has "refused to cave in" to US demands to intensify sanctions against Iran, they added.

"It is outrageous that Najib has chosen to support the United States-Israeli conspiracy to isolate and attack Iran to bring about a regime-change in violation of the UN Charter and international law."

"We call on the Malaysian government to continue any request by Iran and to revoke the decision to cut off gasoline supplies to Iran and to oppose US - Israeli efforts to isolate and attack Iran. "
