Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin urged the Home Ministry to probe Suara Perkasa over an article today demanding Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong be detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Speaking to reporters at the parliament lobby today, he said that Suara Perkasa , a tabloid published by Malay rights NGO Perkasa, seemed to have elements inciting unrest in it.

"I think that if it is true that Suara Perkasa 's front page today is demanding that Wee be detained under ISA, then I think the Home Ministry should seriously look into it," he said.

NONE Khairy ( left ) added that the tabloid seems to be instigating tension and this should not be allowed.

"Asking Ka Siong to be detained under the ISA is deliberately instigating (hatred) and the ministry should look into it," he added.

He, however, remained consistent in his stand about the ISA, saying that although he does not subscribe to Ibrahim Ali's right-wing ideology, he is not in favour of the ISA being used against the Pasir Mas MP.

"I am a firm believer in amending the ISA. How can I ask Ibrahim Ali to be held under ISA when I am against it?" he said when asked.

Wee: I will not resign

Meanwhile, Wee, in response, said that he will neither apologise nor resign.

"I am shocked and disappointed with the report (in Suara Perkasa ) but I am not afraid and I will not step down. The call for me to step down is not reasonable," he said.

He added that he will consult his legal advisors to look into avenues of recourse against Suara Perkasa .

"MCA Youth is also looking into a few options," he added.

Suara Perkasa was launched today and its headline was "Arrest Ka wee ka siong interview 220310 03 Siong under ISA: Apologise or resign".

Perkasa's president Ibrahim had called Wee ( right ) biadap (insolent) for questioning the provision of Mara scholarships.

He had since clarified and stressed that he was not suggesting that the scholarship be scrapped, and neither was he questioning it.

Khairy had risen in Wee's ( right ) defence, saying that his statement did not question Malay privileges.
