The MIC today welcomed the government’s assurance that non-Muslim societies in schools could continue their activities.
Deputy president G Palanivel said the assurance by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the education minister, would help clear any misunderstanding on the matter.
He hoped the government would provide incentives and special allocation for these societies to encourage them to function better.
He was commenting on reports that some schools had closed these societies because they were not registered with the respective district education departments.
Palanivel told Bernama that if these societies were properly nurtured they could contribute to the success of the 1Malaysia concept.
