The polls to decide PKR top leaders begins today in 69 of the party’s 222 divisions in the party’s first-ever direct elections that will be conducted over four weekends until Nov 21.

azlan Members from these divisions will cast their votes over a three-day period up to Sunday, involving seven divisions in Kedah, Kelantan (10), Pahang (14), Negeri Sembilan (8), Perak (17), Perlis (3), Penang (6) and Malacca (4).

Up for grabs is the hotly contested deputy president post, as well as four vice-presidents and 20 supreme council posts.

Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has retained the party presidency unopposed.

The deputy post sees a three-cornered fight among Azmin Ali, Mustaffa Kamil Ayub and Zaid Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, 17 candidates will vie for vice-presidency and 132 for the supreme council posts.

And, the youth and women wings will vote for their respective chief, deputy, vice and their executive council posts.

The youth chief post will be a straight fight between incumbent Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin.

Meanwhile, Animah Ferrar and Suraya Sudin arechallenging incumbent Zuraida Kamaruddin for Wanita chief.

The votes will be counted immediately after each polling station closes.

PKR elections administrator Raden Shamsulkamar Raden Shamsudin said candidates or their representative will be allowed to monitor the voting process.

He added that 200 supervisors will manage the elections nationwide.
