MCLM to field 30 candidates in 13th GE

Hibiscus: The Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM)'s platform has more in common with Pakatan Rakyat than with BN. Thus their candidates standing for election as independents will take away votes from Pakatan and not from BN.

The reason why BN lost its two-thirds majority in Parliament and lost a few states is because of straight fights. Pakatan already finds it challenging raising funds to field candidates. Where would MCLM get funds to do so?

It is reasonable to believe that MCLM, if they field in candidates as independents in the next general election, will be funded by BN and is doing so to give BN a better chance. Their idea of fielding independents will certainly lessen the chance of changing the government and not what they claim they want to do.

To claim that MCLM is a non-political party is irrelevant, because Haris Ibrahim and Raja Petra Kamarudin, by their utterances, are political.

Onyourtoes: MCLM members should join a political party of their choice. How many more ways do you want the opposition in this country to be further divided?

MCLM leaders must be thinking they are now too big for the opposition and the ruling parties. You are not as popular as you think and by doing what you are now proposing, you are doing the greatest disservice to the cause of the two-party system in the country.

I think the people will hate you for this, just watch my word. I hope all of you will lose your deposit. Hindraf has already caused havoc and now we have MCLM. You guys are just too driven by personal ambition, nothing else.

Ikiedetector: What a silly idea - using a private investigation agency to check on candidates' background. Do you trust this agency? Why can't you check it yourself?

Blogsmith: OMG. MCLM is now going to field independents, thus creating three- or more cornered contests and split the opposition votes? I thought all along MCLM was going to offer candidates to the opposition parties, and even then, only when any particular candidate is perceived to be wanting.

Why the turnaround now? I hope MCLM has been misquoted.

Anonymous_05: People make mistakes, so did RPK in regard to the TV3 episode. He should be man enough to own up the mistake and apologise for it instead of using some flimsy excuses for cover. He can still redeem his mistake, failing which, my faith in him is entirely gone.

My hats off to Haris Ibrahim. He had to scramble to explain on behalf of RPK, his good friend. MCLM's candidates will only split opposition votes in the next GE. They must really think it over.

Loo Soon Fatt: The ground feeling now is either vote BN or Pakatan in the coming GE. Voters are in no mood to gamble on any third party as proven in the Sarawak elections where Snap, a local and established party, was totally wiped out.

MCLM will meet with the same fate should it decide to contest as a spoiler and split the votes. Voters are now very smart. If MCLM is sincere to change the government, then it should wait for the next round.

Ferdtan: The picture is now clearer. MCLM is out to be the spoiler of 'one-to-one' contest against BN in the coming GE. Our dream of having a two-party system will come to naught. Why are MCLM contesting as independents when they said once that they were merely assisting the Pakatan to identify suitable candidates? How can we trust them when they lie so blatantly?

We were once admirers of RPK and Haris Ibrahim. We attended RPK's court case wearing his 'free RPK' T-shirts. We even gave a standing ovation to his wife in Pandamaran to call for his release from detention.

After the interview by RPK to TV3, doing a 'favour' to BN just before the Sarawak state election, this disgusted many. We saw we had been had - big time. We don't follow blindly. Personalities are not important but the causes are. MCLM will lose all their deposits like Snap in Sarawak if they were to contest in the GE. That will spell the end of the 'Rambo' RPK's era. Thanks for the memory.

Perkasa: Call for boycott of Utusan a desperate move

ACR: Umno/Perkasa can't have it both ways. If BN wants non-Malay support, then MIC and MCA must raise issues concerning their communities without fear of offending Umno or Perkasa. MIC and MCA cannot win elections by being servile to Umno - gone are those days.

Anonymous_3f1f: There is nothing anyone can learn from reading Utusan Malaysia . Perkasa spews more racist remarks and venom than any other party. They must take a look at themselves in the mirror before calling others not to play with sensitive issues.

It is people like Perak Perkasa chief Ahmad Zaini who make unscrupulous remarks and than blame it on the non-Malays. The moment the non-Malays fight for their own rights, Umno and its coterie of Malay NGOs would constitute that as questioning Malay rights.

For goodness sake, they should rid their minds off the "sexuality" of Anwar and put their brain cells to better use like making themselves exemplary of noble and capable politicians to rule our country wisely.
