Cabinet papers not made public yet, case put off

Cannon: This conniving regime is full of dirty tricks. It drags Ling Liong Sik, its MCA minion, through the court to make a show of anti-corruption ahead of the Sarawak election. They now put the brakes on the trial and play a cynical delaying game with the public.

They'll trot Ling out for another horse-and-pony show come the next general election. Just like the outcome of the case against the late Eric Chia, purportedly the showcase of the previous PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's anti-corruption campaign, this case against Ling will also come to nothing.

However, it will keep the spotlight on MCA and focus public attention on this sleazy, sinister and scandalous BN regime.

Cala: To the layman in the street, why should this case be viewed as so complicated that it merits the declassification of 23 cabinet minutes, etc? Was there a valuation report done by a reputable valuer, and concurred to by another valuer and Treasury's own valuer?

At RM25 per square foot, it amounts to RM1,089,000, or close to RM1.09 million an acre before development. Was there any evidence in the market based on comparative method?

I have read earlier report in Malaysiakini that said the Treasury's figure was RM25 per square foot for the said land, but inclusive (repeat inclusive) of the all interest elements arising from the defer payment arrangement.

This is not a complicated case. Bare it all and the people shall decide where to place Ling Liong Sik in history.

Dood Are the cabinet papers so important and deal with issues of national security that they seem to take so long to be declassified? If they don't deal with things that would affect national security, why the feet-dragging? Don't the people have the right to know how their money is spent?

Ace: This is just a wayang, lah . The prosecution of Ling is just to show to the rakyat that the government is doing something. Steps will be taken to postpone, delay, etc, until after the 13th general elections.

Meanwhile, before and during GE13, the corrupted government can claim that "We are prosecuting many wrongdoers" during their ceramah, while Utusan Malaysia , the Star , New Straits Times , etc, will play up this news.

Do not believe this lying government. After GE13, all the court cases will mysteriously disappear.

Malaysiawatch4.blogspot: We should make cabinet papers public as it now seems there is a fear that some ministers will try to keep their names from being involved in the multi-billion ringgit losses. What is there is hide? A lot of sins are being covered up under the guise of national security.

Alan Goh: PM Najib Razak, you threatened the Chinese that if we do not vote for MCA then the Chinese will not have any representation in the government - ‘lu tolong gua and gua tolong lu' (You help me, I help you).

The Chinese will tell you now that if you have these types of MCA leaders as Ling, you can give the cabinet post to others - so long they are not corrupted - as Malaysians have grown smarter to know what the end-game is.

Ttloo: Ghani should have been nabbed earlier when he sent a coffin to YB Ng Wei Aik. Commonly known to Malaysians, the coffin is a grave sign. As such, Ghani is stirring up ill-feelings among the Malays and Chinese, which peace-loving Malaysian cannot afford.

The Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) should put a stop to this type of action and ensure that Ghani do not resort to threat or nuisance to the public again.

Louis: The inflammatory slogans and comments Mohammed Ghani uttered would have sent you or I behind bars before we could bat our eyelids. But for this special class of people, he could shout and shout as if Penang belongs to them.

M'sia slips to 143 in press freedom index

HYL: Our government is not bothered with this index. If they are, we should have improved our ranking by now. The Indonesian government is more liberal and tolerant. It has shown the world that Islam is indeed a tolerant and a moderate religion. Malaysia, which makes itself the champion of Islam, should learn from Indonesia.

Flabbergasted: A true roll call of Asean luminaries in the list. Singapore is currently in the run-up to a general election. It is revealing how in spite of its considerable achievements in standards of living and education, it ranks so low in press freedom.

This is in direct contrast to those on top of the list, where there is a correlation between press freedom and economic development, as in the OECD. Singapore is obviously tracking some strange model of its own.
