The police have called in two PKR Youth leaders for questioning over the disturbance caused in a Bandar Baru Sentul mosque last month.

NONE The movement's deputy head Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainuddin (in striped shirt) and Federal Territory head Mohd Hamdi Mohd Said were questioned for over an hour at the Wangsa Maju police station in Kuala Lumpur today.

"We have given our statements and full cooperation to the police within the ambit of our rights," Khairul Anuar told a press conference later.

He said investigating officer Ramlan Md Derus of Sentul district police headquarters told him that the matter was being investigated under Section 296 of the Penal Code, on the disruptiuon of a ‘religious ceremony’.

NONE On April 29, a group of PKR Youth supporters were said to have caused a ruckus at the Amru Al-As Mosque before businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah made a sumpah laknat in relation to a sex video purported to feature PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Eskay, accompanied by former Malacca chief minister and Risda chairperson Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim, swore that Anwar and he were in the footage first released on March 21 by the trio, who call themselves 'Datuk T'.

'Not a religious affair'

However, Khairul Anuar said today: “We would like to dispute that the ceremony was a religious affair. Our stand is clear, as has been stated by various religious leaders and scholars, that the proper procedure is through Qazaf (not by way of an oath)."

NONE He also questioned the heavy police presence at the mosque, as if implying that they were the event organisers.

"The police should spend their time tracking down the acid splasher," he said, referring to a recent series of attacks on women in public places around the Klang Valley.

PKR Youth deputy information chief Rozan Azen Mat Rasip and other leaders accompanied Khairul Anuar and Mohd Hamdi to the police station.

Rozan had been questioned on the matter on May 12, while Youth head Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin and another exco member will have to report to the same police station next week.

Police have so far recorded statements from 25 others in relation to the case.
