Case dropped against firm director in ex-MB's land deal
ONG: Dr Mohd Khir Toyo allegedly bought property from Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Hayroni for RM3.5 million. The same property was allegedly bought earlier for RM6.5 million by Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Hayroni.
During the period between the time Shamsuddin bought the property and the time he sold it to Khir, there was no collapse in property values. A price drop of RM3 million (about 46 percent), from RM6.5 million to RM3.5 million normally happens only during a collapse in property values. On the contrary, property values had appreciated during the said period.
Marvin: In layman's terms, there must be a giver and a receiver. Now that the alleged giver has been discharged and found not guilty, how can the alleged receiver now be charged? This court case is a total waste of taxpayers' money.
Anonymous_40a7: Why do I have the strange feeling that there will be no case against Khir this Wednesday?
Kosongcafe: It looks like we not only have ministers who arrange for lopsided contracts to concessionaires against the public interest, but also company directors selling properties at well-below purchase prices. Are they nuts or are we stupid to allow such shenanigans to happen time and again? Haven't they heard of fiduciary duties as ministers and directors of companies?
Hisham: I don't know what my brother's up to
V: Hishammuddin Hussein is the home minister and doesn't know what his brother does for a living?
Steven For Malaysia: I'm in Melbourne, and the news was carried in the front page of The Age as bottom headline here. The headline reads 'Securency money trail nudges Malaysia's political royalty'.
I have high respect for Hussein Onn and I hope Haris is only one of the many bumiputeras who worked as 'easy agent' to get government contracts with their right connections. Of course, this is nothing compared to Razak Baginda!
Righteous: Abang tak tahu ape adik buat? Macam mana ni? Adik pakai nama abang untuk buat duit. Senang sahaja. Ini lah cara abang jaga adik, memperkayakan, apa nama, ‘friends and family'? Kononya,"demi mempertahankan bangsa dan agama Melayu".
Anonymous_4118: There is a Malay proverb that goes Semut diseberang laut nampak, gajah di bibir mata tak nampak (an ant across the ocean is seen, but not the elephant in front of one's eyes).
Christ Follower: He shamefully knows more about sex videos, the Bible as a threat to national security, but knows nothing about his own brother? If this had been an opposition figure reported by Australian newspapers, his big mouth would have opened wider, asking for investigation.
KBE: He doesn't know what his brother is doing and he doesn't think an Australian company would do what's alleged? Hishammuddin is the only fellow who can deny what he doesn't know.
P Dev Anand Pillai: This is how it is in Umno: just use the name of a big fish and get the paper work done and the money deposited into the account first before the big task of approving takes place. Along the way, there are other smaller urchins and insects who will be sitting on the file to whom the foreign company will have to pay to ensure that it gets to where it is supposed to so that the right signature is put on the licence.
Then, there is the yearly fee which is increased little by little with poor consumers like us bearing the full weight of the cost at the end of it all.
Sodomy II: Anwar fails in attempt to disqualify judge
Keturunan Malaysia: We do not want Malaysians to be subjected to "guilty before proven innocent" just because it serves the purpose of the powers-that-be. Can we intelligently say without bias that Anwar Ibrahim is getting what every Malaysian and non-Malaysian alike should get under the law of this land - that is, the benefit of the doubt - until and unless proven guilty?
Chrispy: Another pathetic attempt by Anwar Ibrahim to delay the trial. Anwar is hoping that the trial will not be over until Pakatan Rakyat gets into Putrajaya. Then, the charges will be dismissed.
Makorang: Karpal Singh says the court held PW1's (complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's) testimony as if it were irrebuttable and thus has pre-judged Anwar. A careful judge should have qualified his statement by saying that on the unrebutted evidence, PW1 is a reliable witness. The judge erred when he came up with a blanket statement.
L Joy: We can't possibly allow such injustices kitted out by judges even, can we? Look at how frivolously this judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah dismisses the petition, as if he has been told he has no other choice but to decide in this way? The Bar Council must come out with it's considered legal opinion and, in fact, play an observer role to protect justice in this country. It looks like it is the government against the members of the public. Evil against the Good.
If this can happen to Anwar, a former deputy prime minister, why not to anyone on the street, as long as it is the Umno top gun mafia that must be saved and/or protected? All Malaysians need to ask: What, when and how are we to act to save this country?
