The Kuala Lumpur High Court will decide on June 30 on whether to allow Hindraf Makkal Shakti leave to initiate judicial review proceeding against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for not registering the movement.

NONE The date was decided by Justice Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim of the Appellate and Special Powers division after hearing submissions on the matter from counsels of both sides.

Hindu Rights Action Force pro-tem secretary P Ramesh had filed the legal suit, in which Najib, ROS, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and ROS Federal Territory were named as respondents.

Ramesh is seeking an order of certiorari (an order to set aside) any decision of the respondents to reject his application .

He is also seeking a writ of mandamus (an order to compel) for the respondents to register Hindraf Makkal Sakthi with the ROS within seven days of the court decision, on the basis of Article 8 - pertaining to the equality of citizens - in the federal constitution.
