PAS Youth today insisted that phantom and clone voters “truly exist” on the electoral rolls, as the wing scrambles to defend its claims of clone voters that have been rebutted by a string of news reports by a local Malay daily.

Democratic reform and mobilisation committee chief Suhaizan Kaiat congratulated Sinar Harian for tracking down all six individuals, whom he initially claimed were proof of duplication of identities registered in different polling areas in Perlis.

NONE “PAS Youth remains confident that phantom voters and clone voters truly exist on the Election Commission’s electoral rolls. The data I released was only six of the thousands held by PAS Youth,” he said in a statement in an immediate response to the daily’s reports.

Sinar Harian today ran a series of articles rebutting Suhaizan’s claims last Monday, managing to find the families of all six of the people whose identities were queried.

Suhaizan had earlier claimed that they had discovered three cases of duplicated identities registered as voters in six different areas. He said they found three pairs of duplicated names – Azahar bin Ahmad, Besah binti Mat and Mansor bin Ahmad.

The Johor PAS Youth chief thanked the six for coming forward to prove they are real voters, describing it as a “noble effort” to make sure the electoral rolls are truly clean.

Suhaizan added that the issue of PAS Youth accusing them of voting twice does not arise as the wing is in the process of studying possible incidences of clone voters on the rolls.

“These six individuals should be proud because they were chosen in the process of checks and balances on the list of legitimate voters,” he said.

Strange names on the rolls

NONE While acknowledging that there is the possibility of sheer coincidence as in the case of the previous six, Suhaizan stressed that PAS Youth has found evidence that point towards manipulation of the rolls.

He furnished another set of five “uncommon” names that bear only minor differences in the identity cards registered to each entry.

The list includes

  • Jumaayah bin Alus, which has two entries with similar identity card numbers of 511122105834 and 511122105754
  • Sainam binti Tukisan (500307105490 and 500307105474)
  • Katimah binti Kadni (500808015282 and 500808015290)
  • Nesam Banu binti Mohammad Fahmi (military identity cards T373594 and T375594), and
  • Lanuddin bin Ngah Mat Nasir (police identity cards RF107781 and RF107881)

“Based on this data, it appears to indicate manipulation as it is near impossible for so many individuals to have identity cards that are 83 percent similar for individuals that have unique names.

“Maybe some of them are coincidental, but it cannot be that all are a coincidence,” he said.
