PAS Youth said they hoped Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin continues to support PAS’ efforts to implement hudud in Kelantan at the upcoming Parliamentary sessions in October.

Vice Youth chief Raja Ahmad Al-hiss said the Umno Youth chief had “breathed new life” into the issue when the latter called on the federal government to amend the constitution to allow for the move.

“The decision at the Pakatan Rakyat leaders’ meeting recently does not deny the Kelantan PAS  government’s efforts to implement hudud.

NONE “The decision to implement hudud had been made since 1993 and it is our view that it has been only the BN federal government that has till now continued to obstruct the implementation of hudud,” said Raja Ahmad in a statement today.

He continued to praise Khairy ( right ), who was quoted in Mingguan Malaysia last week as saying, "The federal government needs to amend the federal constitution in order to allow PAS to implement (hudud) in Kelantan."

PAS Youth has interpreted the quote as Khairy’s endorsement of the move and a call for the laws to be amended to facilitate Kelantan PAS’ desires.

Raja Ahmad said the Rembau MP’s stance at the coming Parliamentary sitting will show whether he is “serious” about encouraging PAS Kelantan to implement hudud or not.

“We hope more Muslim BN parliamentarians will not be suspicious about the move to implement hudud, and support Khairy’s views in Parliament.

“Let Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and president Najib Abdul Razak give their reasons (on the issue), but the other BN MPs should be confident that hudud law is part of what is explained in the Quran,” he said.

Let Asri head panel

Meanwhile the PAS’ research centre (PPP) suggested that the discussion panel on hudud implementation mooted by party info chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man be headed by an apolitical figure such as ex-Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin.

NONE “The suggestion to appoint Asri ( right ) would be acceptable to all parties in view that he is non partisan to any party, whether PAS, PKR or Umno, and would therefore bring success to the panel in this noble quest,” said PPP operations director Zuhdi Marzuki.

He added that Asri was a well-respected scholar in contemporary Islam who is sensitive to current political developments in Malaysia.

Zuhdi lauded the suggestion for the panel and urged the government to take it up and end its “flip flop” on the hudud issue.
