DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang chastised the attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail for failing to probe those implicated in Teoh Beng Hock's death by the royal commission of inquiry (RCI).

In a statement today, Lim said the AG should follow up on new leads uncovered by the RCI on the political aide's death, which concluded its investigations three months ago, implicating three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers of perjury.

“(There are) sufficient reasons from the RCI report why a high-level special investigation squad should be formed to break the conspiracy of ‘blue wall of silence’ of MACC officers to pinpoint and to bring to book (Teoh)’s killers as well for prosecution for crimes committed in the process,” he said.

Lim was referring to MACC officers led by its then Selangor deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim, whom the RCI concluded is the "mastermind" of a "pack of liars".

Since the MACC officers were allegedly lying during police interrogations, said Lim, then their statements must be rejected as false, hence justifying a reopening of police investigations.

Lim said this in response to de facto Law Minister Nazri Aziz's who told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that the authorities did not perform any follow-up investigations on the RCI findings because no reports had been lodged.

Nazri breaks promise?

In response, Lim said that this was a “very lame excuse” and the attorney-general had the powers to order for a police report to be lodged to facilitate investigations.

Teoh was found dead on July 16, 2009 at the fifth floor landing of Plaza Masalam, which houses the Selangor MACC's office on the 14th floor.

He was subjected to an overnight interrogation by MACC officers over the alleged misappropriation of about RM2,000 worth of flags by his boss Ean Yong Hean Wah, who is the Seri Kembangan state assemblyperson.

Following this, an inquest was held which ruled out both suicide and homicide, eventually delivering an open verdict.

The government then established a five-member RCI to probe the matter which concluded that Teoh was driven to suicide by four rounds of aggressive interrogation which breached procedures.

In view of this, the RCI recommended that criminal action be taken against Hishammuddin, investigating officer Mohd Anuar Ismail and officer Mohd Ashraf Yunus.

When the report was released, Nazri had promised that “ appropriate action ” would be taken against the trio.
