Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has again raided the Occupy Dataran movement's encampment, which is temporarily located in front of the Bar Council's headquarters.

According to a spokesperson from the movement, Lew Pik-Svonn, DBKL's officers conducted the raid at 10.20am, taking away the sole tent.

NONE The tent contained sleeping bags, mats, posters and other personal items.

She believes that DBKL had been observing the group for a while because the raid was conducted when the group left to join the Labour Day march nearby.

"We had sought help from the security guards at the Bar Council headquarters to inform if anything happens to the camp site.

"He was later approached by DBKL personnel who asked about our whereabouts. So we know we are being watched.

"After a few minutes, we received a call (about the raid)," she said.

No written notice

Fahmi Reza, one of most prominent faces of Occupy Dataran, rushed back to the scene to speak with DBKL personnel.

"Fahmi had sought a written notice for the raid and informed the DBKL personnel that the tent was pitched on private property.

"They did not explain themselves and just said that they were acting on orders from above," said Lew.

The group has since pitched a new tent.

Occupy Dataran describes itself as an autonomous grassroots movement which seeks to promote participatory democracy. It is inspired by the global Occupy movement.

Since August last year, the group have been holding several gatherings at Dataran Merdeka, but came to prominence on April 14 when they joined a student group who were camping in the square in protest for tertiary student loan reforms.
