A mobile exhibition of drawings featuring images of Internal Security Act (ISA) detainees being tortured made a stop outside of the Parliament's gates this morning.

Organised by Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI), the exhibition displayed over ten sketches on the types of torture allegedly inflicted upon the detainees.

NONE The drawings were held by some of the 40 GMI activists who were accompanying the handover of a memorandum demanding that the home minister be held responsible for the hunger strike of the detainees, now in its eighth day.

"These pictures show the tortures faced by ISA detainees, who are still incarcerated. Some were kicked, beaten, and spat upon," said Lawyers for Liberty lawyer Latheefa Koya, who represents some of the detainees.

Also present was former ISA detainees Badrol Amin Baharon, a senior PKR Selangor leader, PKR vice president Tian Chua and PAS vice president Mahfuz Omar.

The display ended after about ten minutes, followed with the handing of a memorandum to Chua and Mahfuz.

NONE GMI secretary Ahmad Syukri Ab Razab said they wanted to hand the memorandum to a Home Ministry official representing the minister, but they were unable to contact the said representative.

They therefore handed it to the Pakatan Rakyat MPs to be forwarded to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

Among others, the memorandum calls on Hishammuddin to ensure that the detainees have access to legal and medical access, and to be able to meet their families.

He said GMI plans to rally in front of the Kamunting Detention Centre this Sunday if there is no response from the minister.
