Kedah MCA chairperson Chong Itt Chew has broken ranks with the party's top leadership by openly supporting PAS' ambition to implement hudud law.

"If the implementation of the (hudud) law can bring benefit to the people and country, it should not be a problem including for non Muslims. DAP should not oppose it," he was quoted as saying by a Sinar Harian report today.

He added in the report that PAS should review its position in Pakatan Rakyat due to DAP's fierce opposition to hudud and consider joining forces with more willing partners in BN.

"Kedah MCA will agree if PAS wants to work together with Umno to pursue its struggle. PAS will need to accept all policies by the party and not impose any rules.

"I see the union of Umno and PAS as a good move for the future of the people and country," he wad quoted as saying.

The comment comes only three days after their counterparts in Selangor MCA had pledged at its annual convention to prevent an Islamic state should it recapture Selangor in the next general election.

Selangor MCA chairperson Donald Lim said if Selangor and other states in the country come under or remain under BN rule, they would never become Islamic states.

MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek who was present at the convention had also derided PAS' argument that hudud law will not affect non-Muslims, claiming that it would adversely affect the country's economy.

Chua had described the DAP as an " eunuch " which was unable to curb PAS hudud ambitions while PAS too has faced some internal dissent over what appeared as a compromised stance on hudud law.
