Free and Fair Election: I silently wonder why would Taiwanese tourists like to make up stories about our Malaysian police.

Then I think about what this Indonesian woman would say about her being threatened by the police and wonder out loud why these foreigners would care to make stories out about our Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Have these foreigners nothing better to do or is our PDRM really this bad? It's an insult to the Agong and the nation that these men in uniform are entrusted to guard us citizens.

Swipenter: It is not uncommon that those who report abuses by the police find themselves threatened and even detained.

It is the sad fact that the police are always protecting their own kind notwithstanding wrongs, abuses, corrupt acts, brutality, etc, committed by them against the rakyat. That is why reforms are so urgent and we need to restore work ethics and professionalism of PDRM.

The last royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on the police force was just an eyewash to quell rising unhappiness and anger of rakyat at the way cops are conducting themselves when carrying out their duties to protect citizens and to maintain law and order.

In order to prevent the country from sliding into a police state (according to former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, we are already one) we must kick Umno-BN out of Putrajaya come GE13.

Anonymous #07443216: This is what the Umno-led BN government has turned these police officers and detention camp officers into - to take the law into their own hands and abusing their power by threatening those who are beaten by their colleagues not to make any police report against them.

Now almost all the police officers, other officers from the detention camps, MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), Immigration and City Council are abusing their powers by imposing their will upon those they detain and go to their loved ones to openly threaten their livelihood.

Kit P: It is idiotic nonsense to tell the residents that the choice is between a petrochemical monster and remaining as a fishing village for the next 1,000 years.

There are many other environmentally responsible ways to develop the locality other than that project which Taiwan has rejected precisely because of environmental concerns.

Anonymous #19098644: The main issues are displacement of the community and the communal graveyards. This needs to be properly and fairly addressed.

The second issue is the value of the land compensation. Again, this needs to be fairly addressed.

The third issue is the concrete promises of benefit to the community. In many cases like the Bakun Dam, etc, the locals do not have the skills needed to work in the refinery nor will this jobs be offered to them. Again compensation for loss of livelihood needs to be included.

James1067: Dialog executive chairperson Ngau Boon Keat, we welcome development as long as it's not at the expense of others. How will the fishermen benefit from this project when fishing is their only source of income?

Can you guarantee that the both the industries can co-exist? Sometimes development needs to be done in stages without destroying the environment and habitat around it.

You cannot compare this to Jurong as the Singapore terminal has both its plus and minus points. It look like you only have only the financial aspect on your mind just like any other entrepreneur.

The damage done by us to the planet is irreversible, leaving our future generations to face the wrath of climate change.

JomUbahUbah: For the first few years, definitely nothing bad will happen. It is the long-term effect that will harm the people in Pengerang when the machinery start to age and turn bad. Therefore, the people must not think of just short-term benefits.

What are these fisherman going to do after they get the small amount of compensation money?
