Following the acid attack on three vehicles heading to the Himpunan Hijau Lestari Pengerang rally yesterday, PAS Youth today urged the police force to beef up security for Pakatan Rakyat leaders before something worse happens.

NONE "The political climate has become increasingly hot and the police should expect something worse to happen to Pakatan leaders or supporters at anytime," the wing's publicity chief Riduan Mohd Nor said.

In a statement condemning the acid attack, Riduan said it was carried out by cowards who were desperate to stop the rise of Johoreans in support of the rally in Pengerang yesterday.

"When the people of Johor start to open their eyes and voice out, it signals that the political life of the ruling coalition is heading towards its end.

"Hence, there are certain quarters who cannot accept the rise and fall of politics and resort to actions such as warning Pakatan not to be too aggressive in leading the rise of the people," Riduan said.

He said the trend was worrying as political violence targeting Pakatan has been widespread in recent months, including shoe-throwing in Alor Setar, pebbles hurled during a Pakatan ceramah and red paint splashed on Pakatan leaders' houses and offices as well as on the PKR campaign bus.

Riduan pointed out that such actions were not acceptable to Malaysian society and have earned Pakatan the sympathy of the people.
