Bottled drinking water distributed by Selangor BN do not contain information required by law, said PKR consumer bureau chief Yahya Shari.

NONE At a press conference at PKR's headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Yahya said the products are in violation of Trade Discription Act 2011 and Food Act 1983.

He pointed out that Section 360 of the Food Act 1983 stated that all bottled water must state the source of the water and address of the bottler.

Bottles which he showed the press today contained neither.

He said that without such information, consumers will be unable to seek legal recourse if anything happens as a result from consuming the water.

"If we fall sick from drinking the water, we need to make claims from the producer," he said.

NONE Yahya also questioned if the halal logo on the bottles were authentic and urged the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) to probe the matter.

When contacted, Selangor BN coordinator Mohd Zin Mohamed said he was shocked by PKR's claims.

He said that the water was not being sold and were given away for free during BN functions and was thus not governed by the Trade Discription Act 2011.

"We're not selling it. We gave it out for free. It is not a tradable good. I don't feel that the mineral water is governed by this Act," he said in a text message to Malaysiakini .
