The Election Commission (EC) has questioned Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar's decision to seek a judicial review relating to dubious names in the electoral roll, at a time when the commission is already "looking into the matter".

NONE EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof (left) said that, by Nurul Izzah's own admission, she had received a letter that states this.

Nurul Izzah yesterday furnished a letter dated March 6 signed by EC secretary Kamaruddin Baria, stating that the EC "acknowledges and is looking into the allegations".

"It is surprising that (Nurul Izzah) said the case is being taken to court because the EC did not respond,” he told Malaysiakini .

"But she showed proof that Kamaruddin Baria had responded on March 6. So, why is the issue being taken to court?"

He also defended an earlier statement to Mingguan Malaysia , in which he claimed not to have been informed about Nurul Izzah's complaint.

"I stand by my statement then, that I myself have never seen or received a letter on the dubious voters list on March 4," he added.

He repeated his readiness to defend the "good name" of the commission in court.
