Election Commission (EC) deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar has come under fire for continuously brushing off claims of electoral fraud, rather than taking any of the complaints seriously.

“We cannot tolerate any longer the kind of answers being given, especially by the EC deputy chairperson,” PKR director of strategy director Rafizi Ramli said today.

“This is a direct message to him: he cannot continue to treat us as if we are idiots.

“Talk to us nicely, explain nicely, you have a constitutional obligation to explain why all this has happened.

NONE “Wan Ahmad cannot talk down to the people as he has done in the last few weeks,” Rafizi told a press conference at the PKR headquarters this morning.

Rafizi added that the EC was even attempting to play down its own failure in properly implementing the indelible ink during the general election.

"The EC not only has a constitutional obligation to carry out the election but also to carry it out with the utmost credibility and integrity," he said, adding that the party was preparing to take legal action against the commission for its failure.

Alleged blackout

Wan Ahmad was quoted by national news agency Bernama as saying that pictures of alleged blackout at polling stations were "an act took before the general election".

However, Rafizi insisted that such incidences did indeed happen, for example in the parliamentary constituency in Kulim Bandar Baru.

"This is why I said that the deputy EC chairperson is not transparent in conducting his duties. If he is honest we would be interested in finding out the truth.

"It is his duty to ensure the election process was credible, it is not is job to be a BN propaganda master.

"His answers could even outdo Umno ministers and unless he wants to contest to become an Umno minister, his conduct is way out of line.

"It is not what is expected of a public officer who had sworn an oath to protect the credibility of the EC, he needs to tone down," he said.

Meanwhile, Rafizi said Pakatan is also launching a '#siasatpru13' campaign, calling on citizens nationwide to lodge a police report over the EC's failure to properly carry out the use of indelible ink and is targeting a total of 100,000 reports.

The purpose, he said, was to show that the people was serious about the issue and the EC should not take it lightly.
