Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin today took potshots at PAS Youth's habit of protesting against major concerts, pointing out the latter's fear of unbridled debauchery at the Metallica concert were unfounded.

Khairy saw the heavy metal legends in action at Stadium Merdeka last Wednesday. So was his PAS Youth counterpart Nasrudin Hassan, albeit as part of a protest outside.

"According to PAS, these guys don't want concerts because they say it will lead to hedonism or maybe an orgy on the field.

"But you know, after 11pm, these middle-aged guys who even brought their wives along, got in their cars and went home," he told the 7th Annual Malaysian Student Leaders Summit in Kuala Lumpur today.

No to K-pop

Khairy had use his attendance at the Metallica concert as an example when asked about his stance about controversial K-pop concerts organised during National Youth Day.

Elaborating on the matter, Khairy said he had stopped such K-pop concerts after he took over but said that people should be rational and not assume such events would lead to hedonism.

"Don't draw conclusions, don't become a closed society.

"We want a spiritually rich country but don't become a country that is so conservative that we close all these things," he said.

When asked if he felt "lonely" in BN, as he was more progressive than the rest, the minister was amused and replied; "not really".

"Because I think there are a lot more people in BN who now have this (progressive) way of thinking and the force of this transformation comes from the prime minister.

"I would feel lonely if even the prime minister and Umno president  did not share transformational views and wasn't a moderate progressive - but he is, and many more are," he said.
