MB queries Azam's sincerity in visiting Jamil Khir's dad
SG LIMAU Kedah Mentri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir questions the intention of PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samat to make known of his visit to Baharom Ramli, father of BN minister Jamil Khir Baharom.
SG LIMAU Kedah Mentri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir questions the intention of PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samat to make known of his visit to Baharom Ramli, father of BN minister Jamil Khir Baharom.
Mukhriz said he doubted Azam’s sincerity as the news of him visiting Baharom, who had been suffering from stroke for over three years, was disseminated immediately.
"This is an issue of sincerity, I’m wondering about his intention when he took photos of the visit and uploaded them,” Mukhriz told a press conference at the BN operations centre in Kampung Sungai Limau Dalam today.
PAS-owned publication Harakah Daily today reported the visit, quoting the party vice-president Mahfuz Omar as saying that Baharom prayed for Azam’s victory.
This was a highlighted topic among the locals as Baharom’s son - Jamil Khir - is a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
On BN’s side, Mukhriz said that he brought BN candidate Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim to visit the late menteri besar Azizan Abdul Razak’s widow two days before nomination day.
“We did not tell anyone or upload any photos about this,” he added.
Asked if his popularity was greater than the candidate, Mukhriz quipped: “Yes, sometimes I feel I’m the candidate... but I don’t mind sharing my popularity.”
On PAS’ plan to lodge reports to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Election Commission (EC) over the alleged vote-buying at a Felda function, Mukhriz said: “Go ahead and I don’t know how are they going to prove it.”
Mukhriz claimed that PAS leaders had distributed aid to voters in Penang, Selangor as well as during the Galas by-election in Gua Musang.
