The Retired Senior Civil Servants Umno Club has suggested that the prime minister appoints its members to key posts in government-linked companies (GLCs).

najib razak 241113Club president Aseh Che Mat, speaking today at an event that premier Najib Abdul Razak (left) attended, said the group would be grateful for any appointments to head GLC subsidiaries.

“Whoever who can enter a GLC, let them in. If not as a chairperson, as (a member of the) board of directors would also be okay.

“If not (in the) main company, (in a) subsidiary would also be fine,” he said to laughter and applause at the event in Putrajaya.

The former Home Ministry secretary-general also said that club members are ready to campaign on behalf of BN in the next election.

According to Aseh, the BN’s performance in the last general election would have been better had former senior government officials been asked to help with the campaign and to be more actively involved in Umno.

He said that several constituencies won by Pakatan Rakyat candidates have a large number of retired civil servants who could have been deployed by the BN.

“If the full energy of retirees is harnessed, BN cannot lose.

“We should not have lost Lembah Pantai (parliamentary seat) and Bandar Tun Razak. There is no way we could have lost if we had mobilised retirees,” he noted.
