Anwar: S'gor politics too much for Khalid

Mushiro: It is good that Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim acknowledges that Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been very competent in economic affairs but lacking capabilities to face the political onslaught by Umno.

It was wise that Anwar did not see the sultan as a hindrance when we have laws to follow. This Kajang move will put Pakatan Rakyat in gear two of the battle for Putrajaya.

Hermit: When Abdul Khalid shifted the blame of the attempt to drop PKR deputy president Azmin Ali from the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) board to its general manager, I'm began to entertain worry that he could be suffering from some kind of Parkinsons disease.

For Abdul Khalid, almost all of his life he is manoeuvring in a board room, and the rules of the board room must have been at the tip of his fingers. Anwar must be smart to realise that Abdul Khalid is suddenly is showing signs that he could be easily vulnerable to the relentless onslaught from Umno.

Before this, Abdul Khalid was caught asleep while chairing in one of his routine meetings. These are clear signs that a tactical kind of manoeuvring be done so that the lone general wouldn’t be caught off guard defending the Pakatan fortress of Selangor.

Many would agree former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad couldn't have reached the height of his carreer without the manoeuvres carried out by his lieutenant Anwar. Let us leave the tactical moves to Anwar, whilst we loyalists of Pakatan just pray.

Apa nama: Abdul Khalid is actually competent but he is not competent in dirty politics. In fact, why should one be competent in dirty politics? If he aims to enter politics to serve people, then Khalid had and still is doing a good job. The feud between him and Azmin, and his style of micromanaging is secondary.

The primary and most important matter is the 'snatching' of Selangor from Pakatan by BN by any means. This is what we must be worried about, not the feud, not about Abdul Khalid, not even about Anwar. The Selangor people should decide if they prefer Pakatan or BN. Please make it simple, do not make it complicated like what reporters ask Anwar.

This 'onslaught' of dirty politics on Abdul Khalid is something no one expected to take place. It is a shock indeed. So Anwar also needs to give a shock treatment to the other side. This is what we call politics. At least Anwar admits it and is quick to take action within his means. Others leave it to the voters.

Actually, all these things boil down to people’s expectation. If you remember, there was an open letter from P Dev Anand Pillai to Abdul Khalid about the condition of the road and so on. This maybe a small matter to BN but not to Pakatan. We can see Pakatan’s work in Penang. The Selangor people also deserve better roads. Why the need to settle when Selangor has RM3 billion?

But fire-fighting dirty politics and propaganda will distract Abdul Khalid’s attention from focussing on real development. This is what is happening now. We have to put the stop right now. Once this unwanted thing is stopped, the people of Selangor will be able to enjoy what they really deserve.

If Pakatan just sits, watch, does nothing, Selangor people may punish them in GE14. Please remember to look out, be observant and attentive for BN propaganda which they will execute every now and then in a very cunning way. Watch the news, you think only Penang and Selangor have problems?

Ksn: Anwar, you took about seven years to realise Abdul Khalid's incompetency. Then why did you not replace him in GE13? You are the advisor to the Selangor government right? Why did you not help him, being a great strategist? Who are you kidding, Anwar?

Now Abdul Khalid, if you or your advisors have read Anwar's views about you, you should quit, now, immediately, before the Kajang by-election. Anwar cannot be more specific that you are not required anymore as you do not fit into their agenda.

Surely, you do not need this position of MB. Kindly leave with your head held high having done a great job. Politics is a dirty business, you do not appear to be good at it. Leave gracefully now. Best wishes to you Abdul Khalid.

Onyourtoes: 1. It does not matter how the game is to be played but someone must play it. Many of you can continue criticising Anwar and PKR for this move based on many reasons – non-transparency, inconsistency of explanation, selfishness, internal party politics and a ploy to distract from Anwar’s personal problem, et cetera.

But the reality is not everything can be disclosed and said prematurely because there are sensitivities and other institutions of power which must be respected and handled carefully. Even if Anwar needs to become the MB of Selangor, can he say it now without showing disrespect to the people of Kajang and the Ruler of Selangor?

2. But one thing is sure if you care to observe carefully around you– the increasing trend toward stifling even the smallest remnants of democracy that are still with us. Rule by decree, skewed interpretation of constitution, conferring and consolidating absolute power, and pervasive control on freedom of speech are some of the exmaples.

Now you can’t even speak in a particular place unless with permission given by certain “authority”. Look at the big picture, not the nincompoop stuff that the reactionary regime wants us to look at. If Anwar is eliminated, it will perhaps take us many more years to reach where we are today.

CiViC: Anwar jumping into Selangor has to be something more than meets the eyes. Umno clearly has been playing politics within Selangor Pakatan itself, and Anwar needs to be there to weed them out.

Anthony Chan: I think the by-election is a small cost to pay to see what Anwar can do for Malaysia under Pakatan before GE14.

James TCLow: As I have said earlier, let Anwar strut his stuff. If he can't even handle Selangor, he has to bow out of politics. If fact he should give this assurance to the rakyat in general and the Kajang voters in particular.

When all the dust is finally settled, there are two unsung heroes we have to remember. They are none other than MB Abdul Khalid and ex-Kajang MP Lee Chin Cheh. Good luck, Anwar and Pakatan.

Whatsup: Never forget what Umno has done and what happened in Kedah some years back when inaction by the leadership ended up in disaster at GE13. Why the distraction now? Seems odd that there are so many critics among Pakatan supporters now giving the impression that Umno-BN respects the law and can do no harm. Hypocrites! Support Pakatan all the way till they reach Putrajaya despite the odds.

SusahKes: You need not read between the lines; just read the headlines. One day, they say Anwar's not going for the MB post. Next day, they declare the possibility is there. One moment, Azmin says he's not aware of the Kajang move; next, he states he was in the know all along.

One moment, they talk about " ketelusan (transparency)", next, they decide to initiate the by-election without informing PAS and DAP (like what Umno does these days to MCA). The show has just begun, but PKR is displaying all the trademark inconsistencies that has become Umno's DNA. Today, it's just a by-election; next day, one wonders what Anwar & Co would do in Putrajaya.

1Selangor2M B: While what Anwar said may make sense, but the tussle between Abdul Khalid and Azmin in common knowledge. Anwar can be MB to look after the political side of things, but make Abdul Khalid the uno supremo for all the government-linked corporations (GLCs) like PKNS and MB Inc.

It is the likes of PKR members with the Umno DNA who will have eyeed the war chest of RM3 billion built up by Abdul Khalid. Now that all the exco members are at the top 0.1 percent of taxpayers- time for us voters to get back value for our hard-earned money. The salary for the exco members is not a problem, but whether the position holders measure up to their pay.

Jean Pierre: Can Anwar speak plainly on whether he plans to be the MB or not? No need to read between the lines. No need for if and when, what are his intentions? Then the people of Kajang can decide fairly.
