Does Shabery even know the meaning of satire?
YOURSAY ‘The only people who are offended are those for whom the satire has hit too close to home.’
Shabery Cheek 'annoyed' by CNY video satire
Gerard Lourdesamy: These wonderful adjectives from Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek does not mean that the video is seditious or criminally defamatory of the government or the PM or his wife or Umno or Malays at large.
The arrogance of Umno and its members have no limits. While Pakatan Rakyat leaders and their supporters, not to mention the ordinary rakyat, are treated with disdain and contempt by the elites, the police keep quiet. But the police go on overdrive when it involves Umno-BN leaders.
Elected leaders, their spouses and families should not be immune from criticism, satire and innuendo provided they are not defamed.
Since they crave public office and all the trappings of power and prestige, courtesy of the rakyat, they should also put up with the rakyat's acerbic sense of humour even if in bad taste.
Otherwise, do not hold public office. Umno suffers from an entrenched feudal mentality. Even satire is perceived to be anti-Malay. What a joke.
Anonymous#007: Ahmad Shabery, do you know what is the meaning of a satire?
It is intended to raise awareness of the serious issues affecting our country from a comical perspective, as opposed to the annoying, disgusting, nauseating, racist and rude butt dance by our army veterans.
The only people who are offended are those for whom the satire has hit too close to home.
Primus: Perhaps the minister should take a check on his ‘humourmeter’. A political satire is just for a good laugh.
By the minister's standard, I would have been permanently injured by the toxic ink of irresponsible yet ubiquitous mainstream journalism in this country.
Swipenter: I cannot be more "annoying, more nauseating and more disgusting" than the Umno Baru-inspired sex videos to character assassinate opposition political figures.
CiViC: In any other "culture" or plain normal human behaviour, people will just stay away, either not watch, or listen, or eat, or get near anything that is "nauseating" or "disgusting", and not make a press conference out of it.
Onyourtoes: You know what Shabery, I shall make it less nauseating and less disgusting for you if that is what you wish.
How about we tell you directly that the people are angry with leaders indulging in opulent lifestyle while the people are left to rot? How about that it is uncultured and uncouth to be obsessed with Birkin bags and diamond rings that cost millions?
How about leaders must explain how they and their children could suddenly afford to purchase upscale opulent homes that cost hundreds of millions in New York, Los Angeles, London and Perth?
How about we tell you that we are fed up of the armed incursion into our country which affected our security, kidnapped and killed our citizens as well as tourists?
Are you happier now? Count your blessing, Shabery, it is just a video. Do you prefer people going to the street? You have the right to be annoyed with the video, we the people have the right to be angry with the stupid antics of the government.
Oh Ya?: The ruling elite should behave themselves and do a good job of governing if they do not like being mocked at.
And they should grow up and start getting used to political satire if they seriously believe Bolehland would become a developed country in less than 16 years' time. Bolehland could never become a developed country if the ruling elite's brains are still undeveloped, worst still, retarded.
SenyumUnta: The communications and multimedia minister has nothing else more important to do then to comment about a Chinese New Year video . Are you also referring to the anti-Christian FB page?
Lone_star: Stop being annoying, nauseating and disgusting, minister Ahmad Shabery. Most of us found the video cheeky.
What could be more nauseating and more disgusting than... are you referring to those stepping on cow’s head , threatening May 13 and vowing to torch the Bible ?
Heavenly King: The rakyat is also annoyed by BN's screening of propaganda films like ‘Kepong’ every year around Merdeka Day.
P Dev Anand Pillai: What is wrong with poking fun at Malaysian politics? The boys at the ‘That Effing Show’ on PopTeeVee do it splendidly. If Umno leaders can't take political satire, then they ought not to call themselves leaders.
Mr KJ John: Why get annoyed? I never watch TV1, TV2 or TV3 because they annoy me. We all have options and choices.
Kathleen Ong: I hope the video made you foam in the corners of your mouth minister. What’s wrong in showcasing the day-to-day life in Malaysia through humour? If the inspiration for such comedy is available through BN, then stop foaming because it’s the truth.
Doc: Just for your information Ahmad Shabery, most able-minded Malaysias are annoyed and nauseated with the profound stupidity that Umno cabinet ministers exhibit.
Gunnerrun: Do your own videos lah , to capture back the hearts of those already lost in the wilderness, searching for a soulful guide back to your fold. Try your best to wrestle their love back. But enough of your PG SX films ya .
We are more than convinced of the quality of those kinds of movies you have dished out in the past, although without colour, sound, look-alike talents that looked unlike, cheap production with no scripts, yes, you still managed to pull the wool over 47 percent of Malaysians' eyes.
Please focus now on more family-oriented films that come with the U (Umum) rating, hopefully the lovelorn rakyat will fly back to your nest.
Louis: Better than ‘Tanda Putera’ film. I find it very entertaining. Ahmad Shabery, which part of Kok’s video is disgusting?
Vijay47: Anyone who has seen the video would draw certain obvious conclusions. For one, it is very amateurishly done and does not reflect the flair, reality, and elegance that ‘Tanda Putera’ did.
Secondly, at 11 minutes 38 seconds it was way, way too long. Tighter editing would have been useful. In fact in view of this, certain portions were indeed annoying.
But as to the clip being "nauseating and disgusting", I hope that saudara Shabery Cheek, not one renowned for having anything intelligent to say, would enlighten us what caused him such discomfort.
Somewhere between the lines, I figured out that the video was not too complimentary of the Umno government. So what? Since when did not writing paeans in admiration of PM Najib Razak and cohorts become illegal?
As we have all been asking, doesn't the IGP and AG have anything better to do? Someone told me that the 'middle' lady in the clip was supposed to represent the famous wife of a local bigwig. It cannot be - the lady in the clip is too slim.
