Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud will meet the state governor over his resignation this Saturday .

"Not yet, on the 15th (of February)," Taib told journalists when met at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching this evening.

Yesterday, he said he would submit his resignation when he meets the governor.

The chief minister of almost 33 years said he had to follow the governor's timing.

"I cannot hurry him," said Taib.

Asked what he thought about the prospect of retirement, Taib said he still hoped to contribute to the nation.

"I look forward to doing anything useful for the country, at a leisurely pace," he said.

Taib is expected to announce his successor after meeting with the governor.

Three name have been identified as possible successors to Taib - PBB deputy president Abang Johari Openg, PBB senior vice president Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and PBB information chief Adenan Satem.

The 92-year-old governor Abang Muhammad Salahuddin himself is expected to step down when his term expires on Feb 28.

PBB announced last Saturday that it will propose Taib as the new governor, after he steps down has chief minister.

If the Yang di-Pertuan Agong approves the appointment, Taib will need to relinquish his state seat of Balingian, thereby triggering a by-election.
