Umno leaders appear to be oblivious of what their underlings are up to, despite their call for a "gentlemanly" tactics to be employed during the Kajang by-election campaign, said PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
 
Speaking to reporters today, Anwar said Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin's call for a "gentlemanly" campaign appears to fallen on deaf ears, particularly among media organisations loyal to BN.
 
"Politically, it is not problem. To have a gentlemanly political contest is healthy.
 
"But there is a lot of slander coming from Umno (controlled) media," he said, after a function in Kajang today.
 
Anwar stressed that despite the attacks by the media, it will not affect his campaign.
 
Yesterday, Muhyiddin, who is BN's campaign director for the Kajang by-election, said that his party will not resort to "personal attacks" and that BN will behave in a "gentlemanly" manner.

Can Anwar attend to Kajang's needs?

 
Muhyiddin's position was contradicted by Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan, who said his party will remind Kajang voters about allegations that Anwar had sodomised his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and about sex tapes allegedly depicting Anwar.
 
Anwar also brushed aside allegations by Zaid Ibrahim, a former law minister who plans on contesting as an independent in Kajang, that the former will have no time for Kajang folks should he be voted in.

Anwar said he has proven that he has been able to maintain ties with voters in Permatang Pauh for 30 years, despite having to perform duties elsewhere as a cabinet minister.

 
"I'm not a corporate lawyer or a corporate man. I'm a normal person from Cheruk Tok Kun village (in Penang). I was born there. 
 
"People in Kajang will understand. I will not give the wrong impression that I will be accessible here every day. 
 
"But Kajang is near where I stay in Kuala Lumpur. My father's house is also here," he said.
 
In a posting on his blog today, Zaid had claimed that Anwar - who is also the Parliamentary opposition leader - has too much on his plate.
