It's Anwar versus Azizah again for PKR president
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim officially entered the contest for the party's presidency today, despite the risk of disqualification by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) if he wins.
Former PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali nominated Anwar, seconded by Low.
Low said Anwar did not turn up himself as he needed some rest after returning from Kota Bharu last night.
Azizah's explanation
Anwar is appealing against his five-year jail sentence for sodomy at the Federal Court - the country's highest court.
Under Section 9A(1)(b) of the Societies Act 1966, a person cannot become or remain an officer bearer of a registered society if convicted of any offence and fined not less than RM2,000 or sentenced to jail for a term not less than a year.
Interestingly, Tian Chua, whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, is contesting for both deputy president and vice-president. It is likely the Batu MP will eventually drop out from one of the races.
1) Baru Bian (appointed incumbent)
1) Mohd Serman Hassnar
1) Haniza Mohamed Talha
