Growing dissatisfaction with PM, survey shows

Aries46: Whether it is 44 percent that hate PM Najib Razak in the Merdeka Centre survey, or even if all the 1,005 respondents despise him, what difference would that make to the 52 percent who did not want him in the first place but are stuck with not only him but his diamonds and his kitchen-sink as well?

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was anointed by Dr Mahithir Mohamad as a ‘safe haven’ for his 22 years of indulgences but the moment he was found sleep-walking on the wrong side, he was swatted down like a fly out of its slumber and ‘Nambikei’ Najib was stuffed down our throat.

He now hibernates at Mahathir's pleasure, irrespective of whatever his approval rating. In 'Bolehland' - under Umno's thumb - these popularity surveys are mere 'shiok sendiri' mambo jumbos favouring whichever side of the divide that does it.

For instance, speculation is rife that Mahathir dreams of the day that his son, Mukhriz, succeeds to the throne. Anyone willing to bet on it?

Onyourtoes: To assess PM’s popularity by race, by those working in the civil service vis-à-vis those working in the private sector, and by urban and rural population is not a good idea.

What do you expect; of course those who are discriminated against will be more dissatisfied with the PM. Of course the civil servants and the more connected Malays are likely to favour PM.

But we know that not everyone in the country can be civil servant. Also, not everyone can be a favoured Malay.

Actually, I don’t have to do any research to know this; I know BN will eventually because a minority government simply because government servants (no matter how bloated our civil service has become) and favoured Malays (no matter how many tenders, scholarships and licences and permits were given out) can’t never be the majority in this country.

Kanasai: The only solution to improve Najib’s popularity rating is for BN to employ all Malaysians, otherwise it will be worse by next year with the introduction of GST (Goods and Services Tax).

Najib would be lucky if his rating will be above 30 percent, even with support from GLC (government-linked companies) employees and government servants.

Ferdtan: I have no interest whether Najib's leadership is dropping in popularity with the people as surveyed; whoever takes over from him will be the same.

 

Umno with its racist policy will still be there. Umno leaders may come and go, weak or strong, Umno will be the same.

The corruption, abuse of power and the inefficiency in running the government will not go away. We need complete change. We must cut the umbilical cord of the past and move forward with fresh start.

And the only way forward is to kick Umno-BN out. Changing leaders, replacing one with another, is no answer to our woes. Problems like education, finance and religion must be tackled head-on.

Even putting Anwar Ibrahim as president of Umno, thus PM, will not make any difference. So the immediate solution, ready or not, is to replace the recalcitrant Umno-BN.

When people are afraid of change they always come up with such excuse, “Can Pakatan Rakyat rule? Will the country be faced with what Egypt is now facing - turmoil?”

Yes, we may have to face that, if necessary; but knowing most Malaysians who are mostly peace-loving people, I am sure we can bring change peacefully.

And yes, sometimes democracy in the form of social justice and equality may come with a price. We should not let fear stop us from moving forward.

Godfearing: Survey results are affected by the composition of respondents. Civil servants and GLC-related workers are likely to think differently from others.

Besides, it is important to ensure that the composition remains the same in all surveys over time. Otherwise the periodic survey results are not comparable.

My gut feeling is that the recent results are a gross understatement of the unhappiness we Malaysians are going through right now.

Swipenter: The MH370 tragedy shamefully exposed Najib’s lack of leadership. Now he finds time to go to Perth to observe the SAR (search and rescue) operation but before that he did nothing except be a "news reader" on this incident which is of enormous importance to the loved ones and friends of the 239 missing passengers and crew and to the international aviation industry as well as our airport security system and procedures.

Touche: Not surprising Najib’s popularity has dropped. I’m surprised that it was not even higher.

He failed to lead in the MH370 crisis. All he did was just read a prepared statement. Now all the work is being done by other 26 countries, who were originally led on a wild goose chase by Malaysia's bunch of morons.

He says deficit is not a bad thing . Does it mean we all can spend beyond our means and end up like Greece down the road.

Roti Chanai: Those in the lower income group couldn't care two hoots who leads and which way the country is heading. They remain poor and hungry regardless.
