Umno Youth has urged Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) to review their balloting system because it did not guarantee that 30 percent of successful applicants are bumiputera or youths.

This was the collective decision of Umno Youth's leaders after they met yesterday, according to its leader Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy said that the 30 percent figure was derived from the quota often set by the authorities on medium and low-cost housing projects.

"There should be a quota because it involved urban housing. But because PR1MA has a balloting system, a situation whereby (bumiputera and youth ownership) would not reach 30 percent," he said.

Khairy was speaking to reporters after chairing the Umno Youth exco meeting at PWTC.

PR1MA was established under the PR1MA Act 2012 by the Najib-administration to address the lack of affordable housing options in urban areas, particularly the Klang valley.

Such houses are priced between RM100,000 and RM400,000 and is open to all Malaysians with a monthly household income between RM2,500 to RM7,500.

Khairy said the issue was raised by the Federal Territories and Kedah chapter of Umno Youth.

He said the Federal Territories chapter has been ordered to write to PR1MA to state their objections.

Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister, said the matter will also be raised in the next cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, Khairy also lambasted the Selangor government for failing to maintain the Pandamaran and Petaling Jaya hockey stadium.

He said that if the state government was capable of refurbishing the Shah Alam stadium complex, it can do the same for the state's hockey stadiums.

"These infrastructures are under the state government. I hope they will pay attention to (both hockey stadiums) which are in dire straits," he said.

Currently, Selangor hockey teams have to practice at facilities in Kuala Lumpur due to the bad condition of the two stadiums.

Selangor recently won the Milo-MHC National Under-16 tournament title with a 2-1 over Kuala Lumpur.
