PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli maintained today that despite the outpouring of public anger over the court sentence meted out last month to Anwar Ibrahim, the party still aims to remove the BN government through democratic means.

Rafizi was defending Batu MP Tian Chua, who is being investigated by police for allegedly sending out a tweet on the evening of March 7, noting that "the people will bring down Najib in 5 months, that I promise you!!"

This was following the Court of Appeal’s reversal of Anwar's acquittal for sodomy and sentenced him to five-year imprisonment.

"I think the word 'guling' (topple) is just an expression," Rafizi answered when asked by a reporter at the PKR headquarters today.

"The message to (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) is to be prepared for an outpouring of public anger if they continue. Whether or not it will cause a downfall of the government, I don't think that's what any one of us meant, certainly not Tian Chua. Because if we want to do it in that way, we wouldn't have chosen to participate in the democratic process,"he added.

Almost a month after probing Tian, police also launched a sting operation to seize his tablet and mobile phone in a public place.

Tian, also a PKR vice president, had previously been charged for sedition over remarks made about Lahad Datu incident.

Rafizi said that the government cannot blame Tian for pointing out that people were angry over the “injustice”.

"People are fed up because there are big issues like inflation, bread-and-butter economy... If you want to fight Anwar, fight him using the political space. I think that's the message to Najib," Rafizi said.

Meanwhile, the Pandan MP pointed out that despite unhappiness raised over the Kidex highway , Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) issue and water agreements about the Selangor state government, there were no moves to remove Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as far as he knows.

"That’s not my decision. Anything on the leadership or the state government will be decided by the Pakatan Rakyat leadership. We’ve not had any meetings since the Kajang by-election," Rafizi said.

He emphasised that the appointment of the Selangor MB was a shared decision by PAS, PKR and DAP.

"There will be a due process and it is going to be a collective decision. I don’t see any indication whatsoever on any decision that’s as far as I can say. I sit in the council and we’ve not had any meetings so I think that everything is speculative as it is," he added.
