Prime Minister Najib Razak attended the wedding reception of the daughter of former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said at his residence in Teluk Kalong, Kemaman today.

Malacca governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob, Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Second Education Minister Idris Jusoh were also present at the reception.

Ahmad's daughter, Nor Ashahirah, 27, was married to Mohd Syahirpaul Redzuan Musa, 28, on May 9.

More than 10,000 guests including VIPs attended the reception which began at 10am.

On Thursday, the prime minister had stated his intention to be preset at the wedding reception of Ahmad's second child before leaving for a three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of Crown Prince Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed Zayed Al Nahyan.

Last week, Ahmad abruptly quit as Umno member after he was replaced as the state's menteri besar on Monday.

Together with Ajil state assemblyperson Ghazali Taib and Bukit Besi state assemblyperson Roslee Daud, the trio declared themselves independent .

However, the crisis was defused after Najib and Ahmad apologised to each other at a private conversation over what the latter said was a "misunderstanding".

Ahmad had explained his action was spurred by Najib's refusal to let to him step down after his daughter's wedding, which he said was a matter of "honour".

Apparently Najib had mistakenly thought that the wedding was held last Saturday instead of today.
