Polls fracas may be over a girl, PKR quips
The violence at the re-election of two Selangor PKR divisions last weekend may not have anything to do with the party polls, polls committee chairperson Johari Abdul said.
The violence at the re-election of two Selangor PKR divisions last weekend may not have anything to do with the party polls, polls committee chairperson Johari Abdul said.
“Some may have fought over a girlfriend two years ago. And when they meet now, they fight again. It might not be because of the polls,” he quipped.
Speaking at the party headquarters, Johari (left) , however, expressed disappointment over the incidences of violence at the Kuala Langat and Kota Raja re-elections.
The fracas in Kuala Langat, however, occurred outside of the polling centre and has been passed to the police to investigate, he said.
Two men were injured in the fight at Kota Raja yesterday, which reportedly saw chairs thrown about.
Not the first time
This is the second incident involving a dispute over the ballot box in Kota Raja, where Seri Andalas assemblyperson Dr Xavier Jeyakumar (below) is contesting for division chief.
The first incident last month involved the ballot box smashed to the floor, resulting in the re-polling yesterday.
A similar incident happened in Kuala Langat, where Kuala Langat MP Abdullah Sani is contesting for division chief.
Polling at the Kota Raja division in 2010, during the party's first 'one member, one vote' elections also saw members throwing chairs at each other.
"The statements of those involved have been recorded and sent to the disciplinary committee. If they are proven to be not PKR members, we will pass the matter to the police," he said.
He also pointed out that several members have been sacked by the discplinary committee over violent acts during the polling process.
Polling at half of the 22 Selangor divisions were suspended last May following commotions, forcing re-elections.
Meanwhile, Johari said that the final round of re-elections at Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor will be held on June 28.
