Battling to hang on to his post, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim now clarifies that the decision to review the positions of state government-linked companies’ (GLCs) directors is not part of a political purge.
Instead, he said that the move by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) is merely to boost the companies’ performances.
“We will only remove those who don’t perform, not those who do,” he said when asked in Subang Jaya last night.
MBI chief executive officer Faekah Husin ( left ) yesterday announced that MBI will review the performances of state GLCs, including its directors and senior management.
The move was viewed by some as a retaliation against rivals in PKR, some of whom hold positions in state GLCs.
When asked why Selangor Economic Development Corporation (PKNS) is not part of the review, Khalid said PKNS is governed under a different law.
On the PKNS board is Azmin Ali ( right ), who is defending the PKR deputy president post against Khalid and has been speculated to be eyeing the MB post.
Meanwhile, Khalid appears to pay no mind to speculation that a vote of no confidence may be called against him in the state legislative assembly.
“Yes, I don’t mind. It is provided for in the law. It can be done through given provisions,” he said.
Azmin, who heads the Selangor backbenchers’ club, yesterday denied that the assemblyperson have come to a consensus to move a vote of no confidence against Khalid.
