Any allegation made against Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim must be done in a professional manner and action taken against him must be through legal means.

This is the stand taken by Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) today, despite its belief that it is only appropriate for Khalid to tender his resignation as menteri besar as he no longer holds majority support in the Selangor state assembly.

PSM chairperson Mohd Nasir Hashim ( right ) said it was "unprofessional" to issue a show-cause letter to Khalid only after openly spreading corruption allegations against him.

"This shows a bad example of Pakatan Rakyat’s way of administration," Nasir said in a statement.

He added that Pakatan had to be responsible for the actions of its candidates.

"Khalid was Pakatan’s candidate as menteri besar after the last general election. If he was the wrong choice, then Pakatan too has to be responsible for it," Nasir said.

Pakatan's handling of crisis 'embarrassing'

He also lashed out at Pakatan for its "embarrassing" way in handling the crisis beleaguering the state.

"The three parties should have convened a meeting to discuss matters before making open statements criticising one another.

"Also, PKR’s way of handling the Kajang Move and choosing the menteri besar (to replace Khalid) without first consulting the other parties also attributed to the current crisis."

However, Nasir expressed confidence that the sultan of Selangor would conform with the state’s constitution by appointing a menteri besar from among the parties that have the majority in the state assembly.

"Whether or not a candidate is suitable to become the menteri besar should be left to the concerned parties to decide.

"The country’s democratic practice will be strengthened if all quarters respect the system of constitutional monarchy which limits the ruler's powers to certain duties," he said.
