After the recent landmark judgment by the Court of Appeal on Teoh Beng Hock’s case, Pakatan Rakyat Youth has urged the police to reopen investigations on the case. 

The court had overturned the coroner's open verdict following the inquest into the death of the DAP political aide five years ago at the Selamgor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Shah Alam.

 

"We, the Pakatan Rakyat Youth, unanimously urge the authorities, especially the police, to re-open the investigation regarding the case.

 

"We urge the IGP to ensure a detailed and transparent investigation to be made quickly, in order to find the truth of the death of Teoh," the PR Youth - made up of PKR, PAS and DAP Youth wings - said in a joint statement today.  

 

"Any discovery as to this case must be very significant, as there are many custodial deaths - such as the case of Ahmad Sarbaini and others. "

Ahmad, a customs officer, was found dead while under custody at the Federal Territory MACC building in 2011.

 
Meanwhile, PR Youth leaders will also meet Home Minister Zahid Hamidi on Sept 11 in Putrajaya to seek an explanation on the recent wave of arrests under the Sedition Act.
 
"It is a beginning for the Pakatan Youth movement to ensure that the Act is abolished immediately and ensure that no more Malaysian citizens become victims under the Act."
 
Despite Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's promise in 2012 that the act would be removed, of late there has been a crackdown using the Sedition Act, including opposition politicians, activists, a journalist and an academic.
