Sultan strips Anwar's datukship over MB fiasco
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been stripped of his Datuk Seri title by the sultan of Selangor.
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been stripped of his datuk seri title by the sultan of Selangor.
This took effect from Nov 3.
A statement from the Selangor palace today stated that the decision was made because Anwar had questioned the integrity of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the royal institution during the recent menteri besar crisis.
The sultan made the decision after consultation with the Selangor royal council, it said.
“His actions are no longer fitting of someone holding this title,” said the palace.
The Order of SSSA, which carries the title 'dato' sri setia', was awarded a year after Anwar’s appointment as the Minister of Finance.
A check on the Selangor official website for royal titles showed that the title revocation was gazetted on Nov 20.
