Gov't burying head in sand on oil prices

James_3392: Tapis Crude, WTI, Brent, Dubai, Oman, Ural, etc, are all benchmark prices for crude oil produced in different regions. They may be of varying purity thus require different degrees of refining process, but they are complete substitutes for one another.

 

Similarly, in the rubber trade we have SMR20, STR (Thailand), SVR (Vietnam). They may differ in quality to some extent but undoubtedly complete substitutes for one another.

 

Now, how can Tapis maintain its price when WTI, Brent, etc, all tumble? Deputy Finance Minister Chua Tee Yong, please don't shame the Chinese community.

We all know Chua Tee Yong is not very clever, how can someone who can't even read a balance sheet answer all your questions? It's totally unfair for you to pick on him.

 

Hplooi: Obviously, Chua is just a tea lady in MoF (Ministry of Finance). He is probably kept in the dark on the inner workings or shenanigans of the ministry.

 

Sustain falling oil prices will have a major impact on our economy. As rightly pointed out, our government (or specifically the gravy train) is too dependent on oil for its revenue.

 

GST (Goods and Services Tax) will not even begin to cover this shortfall. Couple with a bloated civil service and the high administrative expense accruing from the BoT (build–operate–transfer) contracts from the time of Mahathir Mohamad, you have an 'accident' waiting to happen.

 

Note: many of the government facilities were built on (ostensibly private finance but which were really Petronas money recycled as 'private') on BoT basis. This means cronies involved are bootstrap to billionaire status with just one kopek in their ‘kocek’ (pocket).

 

In the meantime, the Malaysian government (despite indirectly financing the property) will be saddled with lease/rental expenses (usually inflated) for the next 30-50 years.

 

Standup4malaysia: How did a half-baked accounting graduate who has embarrassed himself numerous times with his lack of technical knowledge ever become a deputy finance minister? Stupidity is more dangerous when it is combined with power.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang, before mouthing off, try winning a seat in the next general election and better still, try to get your party to win some seats in GE14 since most voters consider Gerakan to be dead as a door knob.

 

Your only saving grace is your attachment to Umno's nether regions, without that you and your party are nothing but refuse/waste.

 

Anwar Ibrahim is not obsessed with titles and he did not ask the state rulers and governors to confer awards on him when he was education or finance minister or later DPM.

 

At that time since, he was Mahathir Mohamad's heir apparent; the usual practice of sucking up to him dominated our national life. Now that he is an opposition leader, petty revenge is the order of day.

 

Yes, he is a God-send because without him Umno-BN would not have been gravely weakened in GE12 and GE13 and we would not have a vibrant and demanding two-party system at present which does not sit well with the old guard and other feudal entities in our country.

 

Myrights: There go the last few votes that Gerakan was hoping to hold on to. It is stupid low-class politicians like Tan Keng Liang that push the people away. Instead of speaking about what concerns the rakyat, he chose instead to insult others.

 

And he is the Gerakan Youth leader even. If he has half a brain, he would have at least gauge how the rakyat feels about Anwar getting stripped of his title.

 

Not Smart: Gerakan and other parties having spokesmen with characters of Tan Keng Liang is very shameful and detrimental to their respective leaders and parties.

 

In the long run, not only the rakyat but their members will distant themselves from their parties. Umno is also already on this path (with the help of its NGOs) and many of its members are drifting away.

 

By before GE14, a lot more damages would had been done due to their ego/power and with desperate intention to antagonise, humiliate and frustrate the opposition to garner false support, without realising that they are in fact digging their own graves. 

 

Versey: Indeed, it's shocking to know that leaders and members of Gerakan could accommodate such an uncultured, rude and crude person like Tan Keng Liang to be the Youth chief. He's simply "kurang ajar" to the core.

 

If he and his party still have a tinge of decency, they should get him to offer a public apology to Anwar and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, before resigning from whatever position he holds in Gerakan.

 

If not, voters should teach this party a hard lesson so that he and politicians will learn to behave appropriately. Tan is an absolute "celaka"!

 

Urkidding: Tan, look at what netizens have to say about your remarks on Anwar. When every over one hundred of comments in Malaysiakini condemning your stupidity, you know how far you can move forward in your political arena. You are as good as gone, politically.

 

You only display how disgraceful you are, as pointed out by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim. By the way, is this the quality of Gerakan leaders?

 

Lamborghini: Tan, the Chinese term for you is "Bo Kar Seh", which means you have not been taught well by your parents. You are a disgrace to your family and to Malaysian society for your uncouth and uncalled for remarks over a serious matter.

 

Putting the morality of the Selangor sultan's decision aside, if a man is already kicked and down, you don't need to trample on him further. At least have some milk of grace and kindness and not gloat and make sarcastic remarks.

 

Young, brash and uncouth politicians like you give me the shivers about the future of Malaysian politics, terrible as it is already.
