The family of teenager G Tinasha who died while in Assunta Hospital is upset at not getting the detailed medical report that their insurance company received.

According to the 14-year-old girl’s uncle I Ramesh ( right in photo ), the report that was handed over to the insurance company was more detailed including medical specialist’s reports.

“Why is there such a major contrast between the report given to the family and the one which was submitted to the insurance company?” he asked at a press conference at his home  today.  

The family claimed that the report given to them only contained the chronology of events from the time Tinasha was admitted to the hospital up till her death, five days later.

“The report that the hospital gave us was not even the real medical report, they are claiming it is but there is nothing there,” Ramesh said.

He added that the hospital has not been forthcoming with the family and was "hiding" information from them.

“According to the chronology report, the medical officer who examined Tinasha left at 7.05am when his shift ended.

        

Wrong drug given allegation

“But at 7.20am, her condition worsened and she had to be resuscitated and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.

“So what transpired between 7.05am and 7.20am? We have so many questions but no answers have been forthcoming from the hospital,” Ramesh said.

Tinasha’s mother questioned the hospital for administrating 10mg of the drug Maxolon to her daughter when knowing that she was an epilepsy patient.

“The hospital should not have given her that medicine. I have already told the doctors beforehand that she is an epilepsy patient,” said I Uthayabavani.

The medicine, Maxolon is for preventing nausea and vomiting. The drug, however, contains metoclopramide which should not be used on  patients with epilepsy as it may accelerate the frequency and severity of seizures.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Assunta Hospital chief executive officer Peter Leong refused to comment directly on the issue, saying that it was  pending the Health Ministry’s investigation results.

“Let the ministry look at this issue and make their judgement. It is not my position to refute and rebut any allegations that has been made.”

Truth lies in post-mortem    

When asked about the use of Maxolon on Tinasha, he said that it would depend on the results of the post mortem to verify the claims.

“I cannot really say much on the use of the medicine as I am not a doctor. The ministry would be able to give a clearer picture after they obtain the post-mortem report and do their investigation,” Leong told Malaysiakini .

Tinasha's parents have blamed Assunta Hospital for their daughter’s death, charging  that the medical staff were negligent in treating her.

They also claimed that the hospital refused to furnish them with the medical report because of the media blitz. However, the Petaling Jaya-based private hospital had denied this.

The family has since lodged two police reports against the hospital and plans on filing another on the hospital report over the insurance report.
