Extremists don’t only mean terrorists, Muhyiddin
YOURSAY ‘Yes, we don’t have the Boko Haram at home but...’
DPM: We’ve never had extremism in Malaysia
Telestai!: Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, I think you mean there are no terrorists. I am sure the bunch of hooligans spewing hatred day in and day out are extremists.
Just because they don't bear arms doesn't mean they are not extremists. Don't be in denial - rein them in before it is too late.
Take a leaf from French president Francois Hollande's statement: Unity is the people's best weapon and greatest strength. Promote unity and understanding amongst Malaysians before it is too late.
Anonymous_3e06: Yes, there are no terrorists yet in Malaysia such as the Boko Haram in Nigeria or Islamic State in the Middle East, but there are extremists in the country.
The language, their tone, their hatred for Christians and their call to burn the Bible - it is there. We do not have to wait for killing to wake up. We must read the signs.
There is something happening when people are willing to go to Iraq to fight. Doesn't it tell us something? Wake up.
Anticonmen: Extremists are fanatics and unbalanced people who simply do not wish to treat all as equal.
The constitution says all Malaysians are equal and freedom of religion is for all. When you follow this, you are a moderate.
When you renege and deny this, you are an extremist. The constitution is moderate. Not adhering to the constitution is extremism.
Swipenter: We do not have extremists in Malaysia but only had a cow’s head deliberately dragged along a road and stepped on in public. We only had a couple of places of worship fire bombed.
We only had some dead bodies snatched. We only had some poor cockerel heads chopped off and their blood smeared on some politicians’ photos. We only had some journalists posing as Catholics to make fun of the holy communion.
We cannot say certain words. Only some holy books are defaced. We only had a few minors converted without the consent of both parents.
We have a wedding disrupted. We should not build a church that can be seen from a highway et cetera, et cetera.
Unafraid: If raiding the Bible Society Malaysia and robbing the society of 300 Bahasa Malaysia and Iban bibles is not considered an act of extremism, what is?
If disrupting a church function on the pretext of accusing the church of trying to convert Muslims is not extremism, then what is?
If confiscating CDs and desecrating other people's holy books just because they contain the word ‘Allah’ is not an act of intolerance and extremism, then what is?
All these acts and more tells me that the ruling authorities only talk of moderation, but in fact practise religious intolerance and extremism.
KayL: This is exactly the one reason why the leaders of this country are unable, or rather unwilling, to solve major problems affecting its peoples.
Nil: Don't be in denial. The IS would be at your doorstep sooner than you expect.
BernieBaby: To resolve the terrorism issue, we first need to admit that we have a problem. Until most moderate Muslims in the world accept that they have a problem, we can't move an inch.
Pray tell us why just about every Islamist terrorist is reported to have made a visit to Malaysia prior to an attack? What inspiration does Malaysia give them?
They keep on making denials after denials after denials and lies after lies after lies after lies.
From Penang: Indeed, would the extremists admit they are extreme?
Fairnsquare: It is not, and never has been, the Muslims in the country who are a problem. It is the politicians, who manipulate race and religion with a political agenda to divide and rule.
Every day we hear about threats to Islam - from whom and what are the treats, no one knows.
Since you did not know about the differing views of the home minister and the inspector-general of police in the Paul Phua case with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), you are also unaware of what is really happening in the country. Come on, sir.
Well Thats Fantastic: Say it once, some people might believe you. Say it repeatedly and more might believe you.
Shout it in all the newspapers and on television, but no matter how many believe your half-truths and outright lies, we all live here and know the truth that all of these politicians are so far out of touch they live in a fairyland, and saying things like this only proves it.
Eyespye: Dude, come on. The fact that there are Malaysians fighting for Islamic State is proof that there are extremists in Malaysia.
The difference is, we just seem good at exporting them.
Remember that fellow in Indonesia, the bomb-maker ? That professor dude? Malaysian, right? Your government has arrested 60-plus fellows trying to go and join the IS fight. Those are not extremists?
Dude, I'm constantly bewildered by how you say these things with a straight face. You’re almost as good as former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Almost.
