PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim has appealed to feuding partners PAS and DAP to stop attacking each other.

This comes as PAS and DAP leaders have been engaging in a public quarrel over whether Pakatan Rakyat should implement local council elections.

"I am appealing to them to refrain (from quarrelling) and bring back to the meeting table," he told a press conference in Ampang, Selangor this morning.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali have accused each other of lying over plans to implement local elections.

The deteriorating relationship in Pakatan comes amid Anwar's sodomy II judgment on Feb 10 where he faces the possibility of jail.

The leader has been instrumental in holding the ideologically different coalition together.

Anwar described the quarrel as "minor skirmishes" and said he hoped the Pakatan leadership council meeting can be convened before his Sodomy II judgment to iron out matters.

"I hope we can set a date before the 10th (February). I am in communication (with Pakatan partners) but unfortunately we are not able to agree on a date yet," he said.

The Pakatan leadership council meeting has not convened for more than four months after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang refused to attend it.

Other Pakatan leader including DAP national organising chairperson Anthony Loke had urged the quarrels to be resolved at the Pakatan leadership council meeting.

However, an upset Mustafa (above) said this concerns his integrity and he will not sit at the council meeting until matters are cleared outside - through a debate with Lim.

Lim had called PAS dishonest over its claim that DAP did not consult PAS in pushing for local elections in Penang.

Abdul Hadi had said that PAS is opposed to local elections, claiming that it only favours Chinese-majority urban centres and warned that it may lead to a repeat of the May 13, 1969 race riots.

Que sera sera

After the press conference, Anwar was bombarded with questions on whether he may go to jail on Feb 10.

Anwar merely smiled, then burst into a song by Doris Day.

"Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be," he sang as journalist laughed.

Earlier, Anwar reiterated that he was cautiously optimistic about being acquitted.

""If it is based on evidence, law and facts, tere is no possibility of conviction, that's all.

"Beyond that, it is beyond me for now," he said.

Anwar is appealing a Court of Appeal decision which sentenced him to five years imprisonment for allegedly sodomosing his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The opposition leader has maintained the charge is politically motivated.
