The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has set April 11 in Amsterdam to hear Malaysian star player Lee Chong Wei's doping case.

 

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president Mohamad Norza Zakaria said this at a press conference at the BAM office in Kuala Lumpur today. 

 

Mohamad Norza said the former world number one’s hearing would be presided by a three-man panel. "Possibly its decision will be given on the same day."

 

Lee was reported to have failed a random dope test during the World Badminton Championships in Copenhagen in Denmark in August last year.

 

Traces of dexamethasone were reportedly found in his urine sample, after which he was suspended from competing by the BWF.

The hearing had been postponed several times since then.

"We have taken a bit more time to ensure everything is being done properly," explained Mohamad Norza, adding that BAM has given its best assistance to Lee.

He appealed to Malaysians and Lee's fans to continue to be patient and give him moral support.

Lee: I will try my best

Lee, who came for a training session after the press conference, said he is hoping for the best.

"I hope April 11 will bring me a good result. I have been waiting a few months for this. I can do nothing but wait for another month," he said.

Lee will not bring his family along for the hearing as his wife is expecting their second child.

A well known sports lawyer from the United Kingdom, Mike Morgan, will represent Lee at the BWF hearing.
