YOURSAY ‘If Agong has made a decision, it’s for him to inform Anwar’s family.’

Anwar's family disputes Pardon Board's 'decision'

NNFC: It looks like the Pardons Board holds more power or is higher up than the court. This is typical of a sham government where things can be twisted to suit the powers-that-be.

Kim Quek: The Pardons Board recommends, but the Agong decides. If you read Para 11 in conjunction with Para 4 of Article 42 of the federal constitution, you will find that, unlike in the individual states, the Agong does not have to exercise his power “on the advice” of the Pardons Board.

He can make his own decision, irrespective of the recommendation of the Pardons Board.

If the Agong has made a decision, it is for him to inform the family of Anwar Ibrahim, and not for the Prime Minister’s Office to inform the Attorney-General’s Chambers who in turn informed the court of a so-called Pardons Board ‘decision’, so as to influence a court decision.

Needless to say, it is equally wrong for the judge to reject Anwar’s leave application based on such a communication from the AG’s Chambers.

Such an act to pre-empt the Agong’s decision and subsequent announcement is an act of utmost discourtesy, and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must make an immediate announcement to put things right, lest he would be construed as attempting to usurp the authority of the Agong.

Blobfishface: Most likely, it is just the usual BN modus operandi - assign unpleasant tasks to underlings while the bigwigs hem and haw and maintain what they think is an elegant silence.

This is what being part of the Inscrutable Orient is all about. Never tell anyone the correct time even when politely asked. Why waste a good opportunity to lie and twist the truth?

Anonymous #25558299: It looks like the Pardons Board and AG's Chambers are forcing Agong not to pardon or even consider for the sake of Anwar's health and his family, mostly composed of ladies.

Just let Tuanku use his own discretion. Surely, he will pardon Anwar when compared to those worst creatures and murderers in this country who are holding power and living freely and lavishly.

Haveagreatday: I do not understand the purpose of the legal wrangling Anwar and his family is undertaking. It is obvious the Umnoputras want him disqualified as an MP, so why bother to wage this unwinnable struggle?

Senior: Get real, after all the trouble, give him a pardon?

Anonymous_40f4: Recently murderers have been pardoned in Johor. Is the fabricated sodomy more dangerous than murdering someone?

Commando 69: What a joke... Is it an April’s Fool prank?

Milk in, mosquitoes out as Anwar 'reforms' prison

Mushiro: The authorities have always looked at Anwar Ibrahim differently and treated him differently and unfairly, whether in or out of prison.

When they arrested him, they needed a long line of police vehicles; when Anwar wanted to stand in the Kajang by-election, they speeded up his Sodomy II case and even the court sat past working hours; to prosecute him.

They brought in a private lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, to prosecute him and now in prison, they put him in a solitary cell to disallow interaction with other prisoners.

I wonder if there is an Anwar Ibrahim Department in the Prime Minister’s Office - all these cannot happen by chance.

Headhunter: He's being treated like a hardcore criminal rather than a political prisoner. Even Nelson Mandela in the last days of his imprisonment was kept in a house.

They want to break his spirit until he gives up but most probably it will end up with Anwar having a stronger resolve.

Tulan: It’s sad but glad he is in good health. May Allah be with him always.

RakyatBiasa: It just goes to show that Anwar can be a blessing and can bring change anywhere, under any circumstances. That's why Anwar is housed in a solitary cell.

Tanteo: Pordah, counselling and religious talks. He is one of the biggest hypocrites to have held high office. Whilst he was DPM, did he ever bother about milk and mosquitoes in Kajang prison?

RM40Million: Anwar's presence anywhere brings reformasi.

Pahatian: Beware of expired and adulterated milk. Don't be too happy. More times mean more potency. Just a caution only.

Goldee: Hi, Pahatian, not to worry about the quality of the milk so long as Selangor is under the control of Pakatan. I trust Pakatan state government will be very careful not to let any silly things happen.

Anonymous #70881335: Just make sure the milk is lactose free, otherwise the inmates will get abdominal discomfort and diarrhoea. The goodness of cow's milk is grossly overrated.

EyesRolling: The day of reckoning is coming for BN. For a minority government, it is making itself more unpopular by the day.
