Police appear to still want details of those who purchased books by political cartoonist Zunar via his website .

Zunar said that MOLPay, a company which provides the payment gateway for his online sales received yet another call from the police on the matter yesterday.

MOLPay last November said it did not disclose details of those who purchased the cartoon book Komplot Penjarakan Anwar (The Complot to Jail Anwar) when police came knocking that month.

Contacted yesterday, however, MOLPay CEO Sheng Guan Eng refused to confirm if police called the firm again on the same matter.

"I can’t disclose anything as the case is still under investigation," Sheng said.

Speaking to Malaysiakini , Zunar said he had written to MOLPay to seek details of the firm’s dealings with the police over his books.

MOLPay had replied saying it will provide details as long as Zunar does not disclose it to the media, but has yet to reveal those details to date.

He said this is unacceptable because the case is about him and the police are seeking details of his customers.

"These desperate moves show how inferior the government is, using criminal laws instead of replying my criticism in a civilised manner,” he added in a statement later.

'IGP should work in comedy'

He said Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar’s claim that he had "asked for it" is laughable.

This is just like when former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the sacked Anwar Ibrahim had "punched himself in the eye" while in the lock-up or when the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer claimed that political aide Teoh Beng Hock "strangled himself to death", Zunar said.

"Now IGP Khalid said I asked to be detained. Ha, ha, ha, I am really amused by the comical statement that he made. Khalid is a funny guy.

"I would like to invite him to join the comic industry. There is a big demand for fairy-tale storytellers. I am sure with the talent that he has, he can excel in the industry,” he quipped.

Khalid (right) last week said Zunar asked to be charged with the nine counts of sedition over his tweets on Anwar’s sodomy conviction in February.

"He asked for it. You ask for it, you will get it. We will not ignore any action that is seditious and abusive of the internet," The Star reported Khalid as saying in reference to the sedition charges.

Zunar said three of his printers have been warned by the Home Ministry not to print his books or risk losing their printing licenses while three assistants were detained for selling his books to date.

He has also been interrogated over his two books A Conspiracy to Imprison Anwar and Pirates of the Carry-BN , while police have seized more than 1,000 copies of his books in multiple raids.

"In Islam, to fight against a corrupt regime is a great jihad. Caliph Ali, one of the great leaders in Islam had the right priorities and said 'True patriotism is to tell the truth to an unjust ruler'.

"As a cartoonist, I do it my way. Talent is not a gift, but a responsibility.

"So I will use it as a tool to convey the people's voice through art and to push for total reform for a better Malaysia. I will not keep quiet."
