Our inordinate fear of all things crosses
YOURSAY ‘They will have to demolish KLIA because it is a huge cross.’
Quick, before someone dies or gets upset...
Xed: Sports commentators must be warned not to say things like, "Dollah sprints towards Saint John's defence, takes a cross from Albert, and scores."
And a doctor must not tell Minah that her daughter is cross-eyed.
People should be told to use the letter ‘O’ because we are going around in circles in this country with no way out from this cycle of hate and malice created by a minority group of people.
ProPeR: Ramesh Rajaratnam, you made my day. I had a good, good laugh. I'm sure the whole world is laughing with us.
You have made the whole world happy, forgetting all the ills which we are suffering from. Thank you. Please feed us more of this so that we don’t have to hunger for happiness. On, on, bro.
Bystander: Ramesh, the education minister should ensure that the teaching of Mathematics must not include ‘adding’ (+) at all costs, especially when ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ are taught at very tender age and this might proselytise the young Muslims.
No wonder, they know very well how to minus but not value-adding in life.
Ace: Yes, Ramesh, they will also have to demolish the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) because it is a huge cross when viewed from above.
Ericlcc: Maybe it’s time for some (or any) Malaysian scientist to develop a flying saucer, see, it’s round so not offensive. I am sure KLIA can accommodate saucers.
Even if it needs water to land on, no problem, KLIA2 can accommodate that, too.
Mr Observation: Not only that. If you have flown on the MAS Airbus A380, after take-off you can see on the screen in front of your seat a camera view of the aircraft’s tail. Guess what, it’s a cross (especially at night).
Mavelikara: Excellent piece! The liberal doses of satire, sarcasm and wit was a treat.
PCG: This is superbly well-written. One more thing to add - we have Thai keyboards, Chinese keyboards, etc. We need a Malaysia one where the '+' symbol is removed.
Also, need to revise the entire math syllabus, anything with the '+' has to be replaced. Perhaps with the Umno logo?
Delay No More: So this coming 14th general election (GE14), let’s mark our ballot with a tick and not a cross.
Apapunboleh: You may get converted simply by getting inside an ambulance bearing a cross symbol, if the same logic of the Taman Medan protesters were applied.
Goldee: Is the cross so powerful that the demons are afraid to see them? Such people with a weak heart and mind must stay at home and not travel to Europe, otherwise they would go berserk seeing churches with the cross practically at every street corner.
But the non-Muslims have no problem visiting the mosques.
Retnam: The emblem for Proton cars used to have a crescent. When they tried exporting those cars to some European countries, those countries demanded that the crescent be removed from the emblem.
Sure enough, the emblem was subsequently changed. That is all right?
Spinnot: Retnam, Proton dropped its crescent emblem on its own accord. European countries are not that petty or stupid.
Ramesh Rajaratnam: Retnam, I checked the point. No, it's not true. Proton was told they needed a better design as it sucked.
It's always a propaganda passed on by scurrilous minded people to justify self-serving needs. Pretty much like justifying the Goods and Services Tax (GST) with religious edicts.
Bringon14: Here's another one for you. You will also have to ban people from writing the alphabet 't' because it does look like a cross the way some people write it. That might influence some young people to change their religion.
This whole Taman Medan episode is just stupid. But thanks to the protesters, there is full coverage of the cross - and for that I am happy.
Dr Suresh Kumar: What about the Manchester United's jersey which carries the cross symbol and the word ‘Chevrolet’? Will the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) ban the Muslims from wearing it too?
Pemerhati: All the people trying to make fun of the bigoted Umno leaders and other Muslims who gathered to protest and got the cross removed from the Taman Medan church, should remember that the Christian cross is not the same as the ‘T’ cross or the ‘+’ cross or other common crosses as the vertical line on the Christian cross is longer than the horizontal line and the line above the horizontal line is shorter than line below it.
The protesters essentially were protesting against the Christian cross because it advertised the fact that the building was a church.
They would have probably also protested if instead of a cross there were bold letters, such as the word ‘Church’, prominently displayed.
The actions of these narrow-minded people need to be severely condemned but at the same time the facts regarding the cross should not be distorted.
