PMTG PAUH Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil today told Pakatan Rakyat not to assume that non-Malays would not vote for Barisan Nasional.

"They have common sense. They can see what's happening, there are many issues in Pakatan Rakyat that they do not agree with which are happening," Shahrizat said at a press conference in Permatang Pauh today.

When asked of support from the Chinese community for the constituency's coming by-election, she said: "The Chinese are smart, they have 'tested' (voting for the same coalition) many times. In the end, what the Chinese want is a peaceful and stable country.

"This is the response I have gathered from the (BN) component parties. We, the BN Wanita spend our time with the Chinese and Indians, too," she said.

She added that based on feedback received thus far, many voters were disappointed with what was happening in the Pakatan coalition.

"They are sad because they don't seem united. They are disappointed because they had such high hopes for Pakatan," she said.

Shahrizat ( right ) was referring to the ongoing tiffs between Pakatan allies on several issues, hudud law implement being one of them. Relations between them started to sour after PAS did not lend its support to PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for her to be appointed Selangor menteri besar.

Non-visibility of MP

Shahrizat further claimed that apart from complaints on the lack of development in Permatang Pauh's development, complaints also came in the form of welfare concerns.

"We heard complaints from the poor stating that no one came down to look after them.

"So we have collected names (of those in need) and will submit them to the federal government for them to receive further assistance," she said.

She claimed the main problem in the area was the non-visibility of the member of Parliament as though the people here never really had one.

"If I say this, they (Pakatan) will get angry. But the people want their representative to be with them 24 hours daily," she said.

Pakatan's candidate for the by-election, Wan Azizah ( left ) has been criticised by BN as not having enough time to divide her time between being a state representative in Kajang and an MP for Permatang Pauh.

This aspect has been used as leverage by BN as its candidate, Suhaimi Sabudin, is a Permatang Pauh native having been born and bred there. Suhaimi also currently lives there.
