Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has denied claims that his father, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, supports the Opposition.

"He has his own views, but they are all for the good of the party (Umno).

" Jadi jangan harap (don't dream) that he will support Pakatan Rakyat,"  Mukhriz said at a press conference in Permatang Pauh today.

Muhkriz ( right ) added that statements made by his father thus far showed that he still hoped the BN would not only win in the Rompin by-election, but also in Permatang Pauh.

"This shows that whatever statement he makes, to him, it is all for the good of Umno.

"So, the issue of him supporting the Opposition does not arise at all," he said.

In his visit to Permatang Pauh, Mukhriz noted that there were several "mischievous" posters using his father's name, which the Opposition had used to its benefit.

"(Several posters) said that my father is coming to Permatang Pauh and Rompin to campaign for BN, (another poster) said he will take part in the demonstration against the goods and services tax (GST) in front of Sogo.

"These are all rubbish," Mukhriz added.

Asked whether Mahathir ( right ) was offended, Mukhriz said the 90-year-old was not offended and that he, too, was not upset by such tactics.

"I felt like laughing, looking at the posters. This is just a naughty strategy by those who simply do not have any other tactics.

"They (Pakatan Rakyat) do not touch upon issues of the rakyat, instead, they come up with propaganda," he said.

Mukhriz said he was victim of such tactics when he contested the Jerlun parliamentary seat in the 2008 general election.

"There were banners all over the area saying that if I win the seat, the next day there will be breweries," he said.

Mahathir has been dubbed by some as the 'de facto opposition leader' after he became increasingly vocal of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's leadership.

Never one to mince his words, Mahathir brought up the issue of Najib's brain child, the debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), and also questioned who had ordered the killing of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.
