PAS parliamentarian Mohd Hatta Ramli said the PAS Kelantan government should not have problems with the DAP's involvement in a project to build new houses for flood victims.

"There should not be any problems, if Australia wants to build houses, if Britain wants to help us.

"DAP is a party from Malaysia, a valid party at that," he told reporters at the DAP headquarters today.

Hatta ( photo ) pointed out that the assistance came under Gabungan Impian Kelantan, a coalition of NGOs and political parties formed to assist flood victims in Kelantan.

"For your information, the DAP has donated money to the state government, among others.

"Although it is under Gabungan Impian Kelantan, the source (of funds) comes from the DAP.

"I don't think there is any problem. In fact, the state government would appreciate (any help given).

Asked whether the DAP's assistance would affect support for PAS, Hatta said he could not see why the rakyat would not want to receive help.

"The Kelantan government understands that in such situations, everyone will come and help.

"And the state government appreciates it. I can assure you, the people of Kuala Krai will also appreaciate it," said the Kuala Krai MP.

Total cost of project is RM3.2 million

In announcing the project today, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok ( photo ) said it was also aimed to urge the federal government to speed up efforts to build houses for those affected by the floods.

Gabungan Impian Kelantan's latest project would be to build 40 houses to relocate the residents of Guchil. The houses will be built on five acres of higher land at Kampung Sungai Mas.

Apart from the 40 houses, a public hall, a children's playground and an aquaponics fish-rearing project will also be built. The total cost of the project is RM3.2 million.

As such, the coalition aims to raise RM2 million for the 40 houses.

A fundraising dinner to raise funds for the project will be held on July 11, from 7.30pm to 10pm at the banquet hall of SJKC Chung Kwo, Jalan Loke Yew.

Each dinner ticket costs RM200 while a table costs RM2,000.
